80s eh? try 1970s as Volkswagen Golf Mk1 is in continuous production since 1974. Production dates are
1974–1984 (for the world)
1974-present (gullible South African retards)

A normal vehicle production life cycle is 5 years and this car has been around longer than most forum members.
 
The sadest thing about the Sh1t1 is that VW has wonderful alternatives that are cheap to make and much more modern. Have a look at the Fox on www.volkswagen.de and see what they are keeping from us.

You know, most car makers have a name that originates with their founder, think of Ford, Opel, Honda, Dailmer-Benz and so one. VW was the brainchild of Hitler, but instead of calling his car Hilter Beatle it was called teh Volkswagen because the idea was that is was a car that the people of Germany could afford and use (like the 2CV). Great concept, and great car (at the time) - but now even the name Volkswagen has become a misconcept. This Wagen is so overpriced the Volk cannot afford it anymore.

Instead the Volk thesedays buy Korean or even Chinese wagens, the desparately dated attempt to change this, called the Sh1t1, is not good enough.

Really, what can you expect from a Volkswagen? It has a misleading name to begin with...

The Citi doesn't have looks. It wasn't even as nice-looking as its predecessor, the Bettle. And it doesn't have speed either (acceleration is reasonable, but that's because it has low gearing).

Let’s look at bad cars in SA today, arguably one can say that the comeback-Uno (Way! not to go) is worse than the stillnotdead-Citi. So have we found a car that is actually worse than the Sh1t1? Well yes and no. The Uno is old and by now it is more like the Ventisei (twenty six) since it is actually 26 years old. But that still does not compete with the magical 35 year old Sh1t1.

So the Uno is younger - but that is not the reason why it is in fact better than the Sh1t1, no. See, our beloved Sh1t1 was designed by one of the world’s greatest car designers ever. Think Alfa Brera, BMW M1, The DeLorean, Ford Mustang, Lotus Esprit and even the Nikon D3 digital camera. Yes, I am talking about none other than Giorgetto Giugiaro. In his "folded paper" phase he made designs like the DeLorean and Esprit but also the Golf Mk1 and the key point here, the Uno.

But, I hear you say, how does that make the Uno better? The answer is simple - the Uno won the European car of year award in 1983 where as the Mk1 only managed second place back in 1974. Proof therefore that even one of the world’s greatest designers has improved on the Sh1t1 and he did it 26 years ago in 1983.

So is it not time that we also improve on the Sh1t1 ?
Like by getting rid of it? How ‘bout a nice Fox ?

It is clear that JK8 has a fundamentalist attitude towards the citi. His dedication and blind committment to the car is second only to die hard religious fundamentalists who believe in 6000 year old earths and such crazy fantasies. No amount of hard facts, persuation or evidence will change his mind. And this is his absolute right.

So let's stop trying to change his mind. It is unchangeable. :)

The rest of us will happily drive our modern cars and no one will be worse off. As long as we protect our families and children from these overpriced German biscuit-tin death boxes, we can relax in the knowledge that we have escaped the brainwashing and propaganda of the People's Car company and their followers. Our children will live on to grow up in a world where citi's are unacceptable and shamefull to own, while the diehard fans and their spawn will slowly die off and with them, the fixation and unrelenting dedication to a car way past its funeral date.

PS: I used to drive a citi for 3 years. That's 3 years too many.

Dude - I love your posts :D they make it easy for me to proof I am right (which I seldom is).
Opel won the European car of the year award for a thrid time with the new Insignia. That is 3 times more than VW ever did and the only time VW did win was in '92 with the Mk3 and even then Opel came in a close 2nd with the Astra. So Opel is better than VW.
Vodacom won't give me 5c per MB but I am still going to ask them cause they annoy me.
Symbian is getting huge investment to take it onto other platforms, it is growing.

And my biggest "I am right" - soccer is sofaking gay ! :cool:

VW wil discontinue the Citi early in 2010 and most probably replace it with the Gol.

Its a 35 year old design that should have stopped being made at last 20 years ago....
The airbag is a pointless exercise since the cabin will fold like a piece of paper in an accident.
 
And about the actual topic at hand - the airbag - its pointless if the structure is crap and old.

Firstly notice the cars (Chinese) WITH airbags but they are useless due to weak structure. The "Landwind" is a very good example of this.

Secondly notice the amount of Volkswagens, one of which is the einste Mk1 :p

apparently, yes - they do.....cause every friggen 3rd car I see is Golf MK1 - some old, some "new" - but in the end they all look like a POS that sound like a popcorn machine.

Ofcourse theres car better than the Citi, theres cars better M3s!!
But if they not in the right price range than it makes them irrelevant!

Airbags are for people who crash!!!

Just because a lot of people buy something, doesn't mean they shouldn't be put to sleep at the nearest vet.

e.g. Croc shoes

Everytime I meet someone wearing those, I instantly know we have nothing in common and will never be friends.
