I have a theory on how mweb throttling works

I think it does not matter how much you download in a month, I think its got to do with your daily usage.

For example

I have read posts of users on the 1 meg package been throttled at 50 Gig, which is an average of 3.4 gig a day for 15 days. I think if takes you 20 days to reach 50 gig, which is an average of 2.5 gig a day, you may not get throttled at 50 gig. At 20 days into the month, you would need to reach 68 Gig to be throttled.

We know that it does not get reset at the beggining of the month again, as it is 30 day rolling window so it has to be the daily average.

That How I think it works.

I also think only download data is taken into account not upload, I have already done 165gig, most of it uploads and not throttled. But I only have till the end of the month with them so I am not really worried if they throttle me or not. Last month in total I did 360GB, no throttling - but my 30day rolling average would not have changed.

So what you're trying to say is that mweb are unscrupulous and throttle severely on a supposed unthrottled service?
And not to mention, throttle on ridiculously low thresholds.

I also have a theory ..... See, in the USA, the internet and cable are all supplied via the same line. I think MWEB have realised that MNET users are rather downloading, so, they have rigged up their new decks for DSTV, and now need bandwidth, and the easiest way to do that is simply to pi$$ off their biggest users and let them go......
I cant be too far off the truth, because if I am wrong ....then MWEB is 1. the most unscrupulous business in SA and should rather be in politics 2. Their customer service sux 3. They are the worst ISP in SA.

Fbman you are somewhat on the right track.
They have an issue with you 'running near line speed for extended periods of time'. What exactly those limits are is still anybodys guess.

I think everyone who bitches about throttling most probably won't admit they're excessively downloading 24/7 just so they can bitch about it like little girls. I easily do 80+ gigs a month and haven't been throttled at all.

It's not a a matter of throttling per se. It's not being able to manage usage so as to avoid throttling due to the refusal of Mweb to publish their capping, oops I meant throttling, rules.

I know that I will never be throttled if I never use my mweb account to access the internet, but somehow that isn't acceptable to me.
