The news is saying Telkom is having a lot of trouble. SABC has been ruined by its employees.
The question is, what next?
Both of those are government institutions with government cronies working in senior positions of both. Funded partially by taxpayer money.
As far as SABC's financial woes is concerned, there have been theories that foul play was the reason. Foul play by management. Either skimming off the top or doing things like selling fixed assets and cooking the books to make the sale go down as revenue income, leading to massive bonuses for the management (a former SAA boss did just that). Or grossly overpaying other "cronies" for menial contract jobs.
The end result is ineffective use of resources, enriching a few and ruining the company and saddling it with debt.
Now imagine doing this with a further agenda, like ruining government owned corporations with above mentioned tactics, moving taxpayer money from the government to the cronies "legally" (at least not directly) and then, the real clincher, selling a ruined company, saddled with debt, to the Chinese (who have shown much interest in Africa in recent years).
They move from company to company, suck its resources out and then pawn it off to the Chinese for the debt value.
This isn't so much a tinfoil-hat idea as an "alternative" theory. One thing is certain, when it comes to crime, nothing is impossible in this country. Thoughts?
