The news is saying Telkom is having a lot of trouble. SABC has been ruined by its employees.

The question is, what next?

Both of those are government institutions with government cronies working in senior positions of both. Funded partially by taxpayer money.

As far as SABC's financial woes is concerned, there have been theories that foul play was the reason. Foul play by management. Either skimming off the top or doing things like selling fixed assets and cooking the books to make the sale go down as revenue income, leading to massive bonuses for the management (a former SAA boss did just that). Or grossly overpaying other "cronies" for menial contract jobs.

The end result is ineffective use of resources, enriching a few and ruining the company and saddling it with debt.

Now imagine doing this with a further agenda, like ruining government owned corporations with above mentioned tactics, moving taxpayer money from the government to the cronies "legally" (at least not directly) and then, the real clincher, selling a ruined company, saddled with debt, to the Chinese (who have shown much interest in Africa in recent years).

They move from company to company, suck its resources out and then pawn it off to the Chinese for the debt value.

This isn't so much a tinfoil-hat idea as an "alternative" theory. One thing is certain, when it comes to crime, nothing is impossible in this country. Thoughts?

Thats a valid theory in my book. Look at it from in reverse. If you needed to go about and acquire a foot hold in major institutions, how would you do it? And how would you pass it off as harmless?

Really an interesting theory, haven’t thought about it in that light. I think you might be on to something. Let’s see what the other folks think.

Does this imply that others might suffer the same fate? Like Telkom, Transnet, Eskom, Sars. Sars? Imagine if Sars went down the tubes!!

It's a good theory and is probably exactly what is happening, however I don't think it's for the benefit of the Chinese intentionally. It may be that they are doing this willy nilly with the assumption that the Chinese will bail them out when they eventually do run the respective companies dry.

It may even be their plan of action (To move from company to company) to rape it for all it's worth and not even have the Chinese in mind (I don't think they have the ability to plan that far ahead).

Who knows? I know the other day you had a little **** fit about me posting the negative stories about the mines etc, and this is one of the reasons I posted about it, they have a lot of resources available if they so wish. They already have ESKOM (To a degree), they already have TELKOM (to a degree), they've had the SABC, they've had S.A.A, they could nationalise anything they wanted in fact. Time will tell, I hope it isn't so but going on Africa as a continent it does look likely.

A quick Google has found that water supply in S.A. is run by water boards, which are government run insittutions (well as far as I understand it anyway). One thing is for sure the government isn't as stupid as most of us think. They effectively have control of:

Water
Electricity
Communications (T.V., internet, telephones)
Travel (Including rail, S.A.A)

As far as I know the only one of the above they haven't taken the proverbial pee with is water supply for the moment anyway.

Without wanting to bring race into this too much, the vast majority of whites are tax payers, and the vast majority all pay their bills for the above services (maybe not so much in the case of S.A.A. but for sure the tax payers have contributed). Tin-foil hat time, maybe the government know this and just maybe they are using these services as their respective cash cows, firstly to enrich themselves and secondly to try and drive the whites out? Maybe not, but I'm of the opinion that that's the plan.

What could be next? The mines, possibly.

Either way they will find something to milk when they run out at the various companies they are involved in at the moment that's for sure.
In short, it is possible they are doing this for the benefit of the Chinese, but I think it's more for their own benefit.

what was once said...never attribute to malice that which can be easier blamed on incompetence...or something like that.

'Affirmative Action' Hmmm . . . Some love it some hate it :D My brain tells me one thing while my wallet another ;) Welcome to the NEW South Africa - We've suffered for far too long . . .

Not so. As you are probably aware the quality of water has gone for a ball of, well, you-know-what. The reason is that has been no investment in capital and hence money is freed up for "executive" salaries.

What could be next? The mines, possibly.

That's precisely what AA/BEE are doing.

However I think Werner is on the button. It's pure stupidity. There was an example I came across the other day (it was how the high crime rate benefits the economy, e.g. VAT on replaced goods). In the short term it benefits the economy, in the long term it forces out skilled taxpayers thus decreasing the taxbase. This bunch of idiots either can't see or don't care about the damage they're doing in the long term. The poor masses will have been reemed once again and the skills will be sipping their pink gins and watching the sunset over Sydney or Auckland.

Nope not really aware of that, but hardly surprising :D

Let's not forget that they could also possibly take over SAB as well, now THAT'S a reason for war :D I know they're only giving 10% away to black people for now but when the powers that be realise how much money is in "brewing" I'm sure they'll head that way :)

Hmmmmmmmmm. Very coherent but I would tend to believe that it’s too sophisticated for SA. Requires forward planning. Unless the Chinese thought of it.

alot is to blame on Mbeki/Mugabe's African Renaissance' bullcrap.
lol
they did expect to like money that much and the movement kinda soured :D

Huh . . . You people think the Chinese are 'Father Christmas' or what :D Well, I have bad news for you :( The averige Chinese has a 12% bigger brain and a 20% higher IQ then the averige African. Actually, pound for pound and on averige, they are the brightest living matter we know in the whole Universe ! Makes one 'think' doesn't it. Sure, they will come here (in Africa). The question is - will you people be better off with them?:D

"Actually, pound for pound and on averige, they are the brightest living matter we know in the whole Universe"

That's why you get Chinese students with a triple PHD from Harvard, MIT and CalTech. Well, brains and a drive like hell to get out of China.

"Hmmmmmmmmm. Very coherent but I would tend to believe that it’s too sophisticated for SA. Requires forward planning. Unless the Chinese thought of it."

That's exactly what I was implying. This isn't just another "anti ANC" rant, this is taking it a step further. This is the Chinese and their expansion policy. And the Chinese are some of the oldest people in the world so they know about planning for the longterm.

The Chinese are investing like crazy in Africa. Africa supplies nearly all of China's oil. And China needs South Africa's mines. That is probably what is going to happen next. The mines are going to get ruined, in part due to Eskom being ruined.

China buys all the companies for a total pittance.

This is certainly long term. But I'm betting they're picking a nice moment to get the show on the road (Standard bank is already 20% owned by the Chinese). That moment is probably after the JSE folds next year when we regain only a fraction of the money used to build the stadiums, upgrade OR Thambo, etc. All of it going through government hands, all of it enriching some government off the books.

Perhaps you mean Eskom?

Executive greed and stupidity are hardly unique to any of these companies.

Sounds like the Japanese are taking over the world paranoia of the 80s. Of course as we all know the Japanese and Chinese are just puppets of a much bigger conspiracy. They're behind the world financial crisis too*. And high fructose corn syrup.

*Obviously they planned the crisis to weaken South African mines so they could buy them. Holy batman they're clever.

Lol. Interestingly enough there were some mining companies that sold mine's for something like R2 because they could no longer fund the particular shaft.

If you're quoting groups with the highest IQ's its actually the Ashkenazi Jews (Eastern Europe Jews). I think the Japanese come in second.

*insert standard disclaimer as to controversy regarding IQ test validity and measurement bias across cultures.

Believe it or not, my mom is a Ashkenazi (from North Eastern Romania. My dad is German.) I reside in South Africa for most part of the year nowadays. (israel and germany are my other 2 countries) I read a lot about intelligence and brain size. As much as I hate to admit, while some jewish ancestry/family lines, have the biggest brains and IQ's around, as a general population average, the chinese/japanese top the scale :( Besides the point - I am convinced, the Chinese coming to (South) Africa, are not doing so because of 'guilty' feelings for the 'disadvantaged'. Africa is a very Hi-Risk investment by anyone's definition. One must ensure of getting as much of the capital back , as quick as possible. The only non African population, who do not adhere to this principle are the 'Afrikaner' nation (old Dutch settlers). Ironicaly, in South Africa in particular, this are the Europeans, which the 'locals' despise most. We are living in interesting times. I hope, everything will turn out just fine (or at least better then in Zimbabwe). For now it does not look good though. 'Affirmative Action' as the people in South Africa call it (Institutional racism for the non South African), is a bitter pill the country has to swallow. And honestly, I don't think the Chinese are the ones who will bring the 'glas of watter' :D Fingers crossed, the country does not choke to death as all the others did.

a little story

The dragon awakes and longingly looks at the dilapidated breadbasket of the world,
the dragon sighs, moves a few inches, lashes its tail across Africa and slumbers,
one eye open.

Far away on another perfectly beautiful African day, locals move about the dust waiting.

They have no idea, no clue as to what is coming their way.

Aren't chinese people eligible for BEE now? My buddie was telling me something about that. If true, would they have had to be born in SA or could any chinese chap immigrate to SA and be able to start/takeover a business and be BEE?
