A USB problem

on my daughters laptop i see there is a black exclamation mark on the usb icon in the systems device manager. my flashstick or any usb gadget is not being picked up by the laptop.

hw do i get the usb port working again. i have tried a search of the harddrive but after the search it says there is an error.

ha ha i have no idea i switched on this morning and there you go, its working.

laff it up....laff it up..... ha ha yip i agree with you but what i was trying to do was getting my daughters laptop to work online as with help from you guys i got my wifes one sorted, but this old one has a 56k modem in it so i plugged the ethernet cable in the network jack and the lights went on (no not in my head), but at the jack but no connection.

i looked for files for the network/ethernet cable and found the black exclamation mark against it when i searched for in on the laptop. i tried to download files off my desktop to install on the laptop and all hell broke loose and so did the usb settings.

oh well as you say leave well enough alone at least she has a colour screen still.
