A week with Apple ...

So they wifey just bought to the Apple ecosystem. iPhone 13 + Apple Watch 7, coming from a P40 Lite.

She's noticed that apps and tasks are noticeably faster on the android. In terms of launching apps, sending attachments etc. I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself.

On the fast-charging issue. Coming from the P30 Pro to the S22 Ultra. I really miss the 65watt charging support. Samsung & Apple really need to catch up.

The battery life on both the Apple & Samsung is crap compared to the Huawei :/

Uh…it is possible…why do you say it’s not?
Show me, please.

Take a picture
And go to WhatsApp and send it as a document.

I will buy you steak dinner if you get it right.

( If you need to move or touch the photo in any way after it is taken then automatic fail. )

You didn't say send an image as a document, you said send a document.

iOS doesn't ruin the quality when sending via WhatsApp but if it's an issue for you, do the below and share from the PDF screen at Step 5

Videos not but the file restriction is gone on WhatsApp

Edit : Go to a video, Share Button and Save to Files and send as Document from WhatsApp. You can actually do the same with pictures so ignore the above.

Android has many advantages but I just cannot get over the inherent lag that will eventually rear its ugly head. It will be perfectly smooth for a while but then you'll start noticing small little delays in doing things that really gets on my nerves.

Had an iPhone 11 for almost a year now I think and the UI is still as smooth as the day I got it.

Same issue with Android TV on my Shield (a very high end media player) there is just always some lag somewhere when you want to do something.

If Android could fix this issue I would consider moving back for my mobile phone, until then I'm satisfied with the iPhone.

Yeah problem with Android is that unless you get a Pixel or something you’re stuck with Android + Manufacturer UI/Bloat + Carrier Bloat out of the box. Then you have to hope that developers have managed to update their apps to accommodate the 747821 Android models with drastically varying hardware profiles out there, while remembering to slightly optimise them for yours (maybe if you have a flagship that is). Modern Androids don’t have insane amounts of RAM for wow factor: it’s just so that they can keep up.

Queue iOS that only needs to run on a select range of iPhones, with no carrier bloat (they aren’t allowed to install their crap on Apple’s devices), and apps that have usually been designed for iOS first (before they’ve been bastardised to work on Android). Buttery smooth experience, doing the same thing as an Android flagship (and sometimes even better) with a fraction of the RAM.

Speaking of photos and the gallery - any way to sort? Most recent at the top?

"Recents" is automatically sorted oldest to newest and you can't change it (for whatever reason), however if your photos are in an album you can sort - tap the more button(...):

While you might not grasp the concept an extra step does not make it a fail. Fact is you can send images and videos as files/documents if you want to.

I'm sitting here with an iPhone 13 Pro and old Mate 20 Pro. The processor in the iPhone is like 100% faster than last year, which is 100% faster than the year before and 100% faster than the year before. In other words, 100,s and 100s and 100s of percent faster than the Android.

And yet using the phone doesn't really show that power at all .

Anyway, once I got a few freezes on iOS , I noted some of the apps also have less functionality . I've already submitted to 22Seven top please update to Android standard - but just wondering if the very locked nature of iOS prevents some app developers in deploying certain functions ?

That's what I've always believed - but that's not always the case .

I can't see how apps such as Facebook or Instagram have more functionality on iOS ?
But I can see how apps such as Snapseed or 22Seven have less functionality ?
It may be a learning thing - but WhatsApp seems designed a bit more sh*tty on iOS

Which apps have more functionality on iOS?

@SauRoNZA I tried to log a ticket for the 22Sevem , clicked Contact Us and it wants me to download Mail for Apple - ignores my Gmail. Is there a way to tell it to use Gmail ?

Interesting to see the differences between iOS and Android users regarding charging habits. Quick charges versus charging while you sleep seems to be the main difference and it looks like it might not just come down to phone choice but also lifestyle led.

Personally I couldn’t live the kind of unorganised life that would depend on a fast charger while I shower or make coffee, so have always put my phone in the cradle when I go to bed, wake up at 100% and that’s me for the day.

I do wonder about “optimised charging” though where the iPhone manages itself according to your habits. Here from last night for example it stopped for a few hours before continuing to 100% closer to my wake up time.

According to the people who shout about charging 0 to 100 in 3.4 seconds, batteries don’t degrade with super fast charging and speed is the real issue. But I’m sure there must be something in it.

So I guess the choice I and other Apple users have is to either trust Apple battery management software/hardware in house integration, or third party hardware manufacturers who appeal to people who like big numbers and huge specs.

Doesn't degrade as much .

My mom is replacing her battery on her iPhone right now because it dies within an hour or less. That's 6 years or so .
I still used both my Huawei phones devices until last week with no issue .

My Huawei watch has lost about 4 days per many years - but I'm still getting 9 or 10 days . That's still great by all standards

Fair enough. I don’t know what model your mum has but things have changed for the better big time these last few years. For example I had an iPhone 6s which was unusable at 85% and I had to replace the battery, whereas recently I gave my 12 mini to my son at 84% and the difference between 100 and 84 was unnoticeable to me. If Apple hadn’t pulled their socks up I’d have been back to Android a couple of years ago but now it’s not an issue at all.

It was about 6 years - as I know she had it 2 or so years before mine. Unsure what model that could have been .

Google also "fixed" it on Pixel last year, they all introduced it around 2019/2020, don't really care who was first (think ASUS 2018?), it doesn't have much effect on battery life, the battery tech has changed quite a bit since early phones. My OnePlus pops up saying it will charge to 100% around 20 minutes before alarm goes off, before that it hovers around 70-75% from what I saw.
Personally I couldn’t live the kind of unorganised life that would depend on a fast charger while I shower or make coffee,
"Unorganized" is a dumb word to use, having a norm of just quickly charging when needed every few days doesn't mean unorganized. I also don't have every day the same. On an iPhone, I probably wouldn't be able to last a day often enough, just the nature of GPS. Our usage patterns differ, trying to argue what you're arguing is just stupid.

Sure there's a degradation, it's just minimal.

You're also assuming Apple is ahead in the battery tech industry, they're not, the leaders there is OPPO for phones.

While you might not grasp the concept an extra step does not make it a fail. Fact is you can send images and videos as files/documents if you want to.
On android there are ZERO extra steps, anything else is a compromise & utter unnecessary.

Take a photo
Send as document in WA

that's it.

On apple you need to take the foto, then go to photos, then scroll to the foto then copy the photo, navigate to files, but not any file a specific folder that whatsapp can get to, then close then go to whatsapp then document then navigate to the specific folder and then add the image and you can't the bunch no no, very strict.

It's a joke if you want to tell me that is "smooth"

While you might not grasp the concept an extra step does not make it a fail.

My reference point is how it works in Android, this being Android vs iOS end-user convenience, it's a fail for iOS.

I am so deep on Apple's dick don't mistake my reflection & retrospective criticism with Apple is kak and I am a hater. No sir, I am Apple's number one moneymaker, BUT I am not oblivious that certain very specific tasks are better in android, most of the time those tasks don't matter cause it is too niche, but this though... any marketing or professional ( lawyers, etc ) who sends documents ( images of documents or designs or text ) is affected here.

We send 50+ hi-res images of various subject matter per day, it's impossible on iOS, so we need to resort to doing it via MacBook and web.whatsapp which works exactly like whatsapp on android,

I just select photo/s > Share iCloud Link > paste link to person/s.

WhatsApp does seem to have been an afterthought, but it’s one of the exceptions that’s clearly been designed for Android. Remember, iOS already has a superior messaging app preinstalled: iMessage, and it gets a LOT of love from Apple. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to get much use outside of iPhone-majority countries like the US and Japan because of WhatsApp, WeChat and Signal. Unless, of course, you’re using it to chat with other iPhone users wherever you are, but using it to communicate with Android users is kind of pointless because their default messaging app doesn’t have any of the functionality of iMessage. They’re apparently working on adding a lot of the features of iMessage (or already have), so who knows?

Just wish iMessage would not send full size photos, or at least provide the option to reduce size to small like WhatsApp automatically does.
