there are spare "unbranded" Boeing's used at Tambo. All -white with no markings cause of my reason below....

I was on a kulula flight once and we went in one. I think its leased when there are schedule or maintenance problems on the normal jets. hence no branding so any airline can use it.

Makes one wonder if there would be money in outsourced jets. or at least ones for maintenance replacements or delays etc.

+1

What kind of plane was it wayne?

I flew on a plain white 737 from CT last month with Kalula.

Agree ... I found out that all markings where removed for political reasons should the aircraft be shot down. Not so sure of how much of an urban legend the stories are but they had all serial numbers removed.

Yes, I hear you. I thought of this and they should’ve just put any nations rego. letters followed by an alphabet soup hash. The first two letters indicate the country - (ZS) is South African, for example. It needn’t be ZS (that would be stupid). Haiti, Madagascar, Zim. etc. Misinformation and confusion if it’s shot-down.

No there’re not. It’s possible that they may not have airline livery, but they must have a rego. International law. Make’s ATC’s life easier (traffic cops of the sky). The rego. forms part of the plane’s call sign (it’s identity). Fake or not, if ATC want to talk (often important stuff) they must be able to call you and you should recognise the message is for you.

Yes, the presidential plane is not marked. New liveries are put on in the factory, and planes are delivered complete with coloured tail and South African on the body.

JZ has been all over the place this week, so it could have been him...I take it, that it wasn't a 747...that would be a different story.

The presidential aircraft is marked and even carries a civilian registration, ZS-RSA.

Air Zuma

The white 747-400 (ZS-SBS) was delivered in 1998, and it was not painted(only primer). It was ordered by Philipine Airways but for various reasons they couldn't take it and it went to SAA instead. This was also the first SAA aircraft which wasn't named, ZS-SBK(also meant for Philipine Airways) was delivered on the same day(or perhaps the day before) and it was named.

In the late 80's there use to be a cargo plane without any markings (not even serial) that would fly 247 between Kimberly and Angola. It was used by then government to fly through support materials to Angola rebels.

Only speculation to what was on board.

Use to see it when I would visit some relatives in Kimberly.

During the border war the SAAF Boeing 707s flew with no markings, only a blue strip along the window line. They may have used Kimberley for training purposes.
