So these 2 phones are similar in price but offer value in different ways.

A22 is ~ R4000
9T is ~ R3500

A22 has 90hz AMOLED but is only 720p.
9T has 60hz LCD but higher resolution of 1080p.

A22 has single speaker.
9T has dual speakers.

A22 has Mediatek G80
9T has Snapdragon 662
I feel these are on par mostly

A22 has OIS
9T does not have OIS

A22 has 5000mah battery
9T has 6000mah battery

Both have side fingerprint readers. Which I like. I still think it's better than in display sensors.

Samsung has arguably better support and after sales service in SA than Xiaomi.

The Samsung will sell easier second hand than the Xiaomi and for a better price.

Despite the lower screen resolution and lack of dual speakers I feel the A22 is the better buy.

What do you think?

This is something only you can decide on. What do you want from the device, will tell you which one to get.

Do you value good battery life, enjoy music, want a good screen res, refresh rate etc or a combination of those features

So which ever gives you more of your needs in terms of one of those phones, then that's the one..

I prefer AMOLED displays but the lower resolution of the Samsung is a bit off putting.
The 90hz is nice but not a deal breaker.

I like the dual speaker system as that is what I am used to. But I suppose a single speaker isn't totally a deal breaker.

The camera is important to me (coming from iPhone) and I know phones with OIS usually take hetter pictures.

Battery life is also important.

So summarising in order of importance:
Camera
Screen - Amoled
Battery life
Speakers

So I guess the A22 ticks most of those boxes.
Camera will definitely be superior to the Redmi due to OIS.
Battery about the same.
Only loss is dual speakers and a drop in screen resolution.

For R800 more the A32 is arguably the better buy but then it doesnt have OIS and I dont like the in display fingerprint reader.

Thanks but not really interested in second hand devices. Never know what you really get.

I really like Xiaomi phones and they offer great value, but after sales service and repairs may be an issue if anything happens to the device.

The device is for you?

Is the price limited by how much cash you have available or thats as much as you are willing to spend?

@jnvdh06 - I got a 9T a few weeks ago from Incredible Connection for R2,999, so that's a R1k price difference at the time I bought it.

It's not "earth shattering" but it meets my needs more than adequately.

Re the camera, I've set the picture quality to "Standard" instead of "High", and for me it takes perfectly reasonable photos like that, though I don't take many - I just don't like the space high res. pics (and for that matter documents) take up in storage.

One thing you must know about (if you don't already) is that the 9T in some markets has been suffering from something called "dead boot" (refer to comments here : https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_9t-reviews-10670.php ).

I've mentioned it in the Xiaomi thread, but no-one in SA (this forum, anyway) seems to have suffered from it - so far, only phones in parts of Asia & Nigeria where there's apparently a motherboard issue causing it. This should be something to also take into consideration ; I decided that at R3k, I'd take the chance.

Ja. I have some debt to pay off so I want to sell my iPhone and Apple Watch to take care of it.
So want to get in return a cheap-ish reliable phone with good features.

Ja I read about the dead boot issue. Probably not thay big of a deal but with my luck you never know

Ive had my Xaiomi 9T since June and in my opinion this is the best entry level phone Ive ever owned.
There is never ever any lag no matter how many Apps are open
Touchscreen is smooth
I have zero issues with it, not 1 considering the price.

Wife has the Redmi Note 10 pro since June and besides it turning the screen off when listening to whatsapp she is happy with it.

I think the A22’s software will be more stable than the Redmi. I have read of the lack of software optimisation in some of the Xiaomi phones.
