Remove cmos battery for a few minutes and try again...? Not sure though Gary.

will try removing the battery...

I did the update through the BIOS itself using it's own utility. It said "BIOS update successful, rebooting in five seconds"...

but when it rebooted... nothing... it just sits there. The power light comes on... but nothing else. no beeps, nothing.

ASUS' forums indicate that that utility blows:eek:. Try some of the sugestions posted there

Oi...I haven't updated my BIOS in a while either. Did it with my flash drive last time around. Must make a mental note not to use their utility either. Hope you get it sorted Gary.

Thanks... reading that now!

Interesting ASUS suggests not using the ASUS flash utility in the BIOS... then WTH??? do they continue including it in the BIOS????

Who knows? You're not the first person to wonder that either judging by the comments posted there :D

Let us know if you come right; I have the same board

Thanks guys... have taken out the battery for a few mins... will see if it at least gets me back to the BIOS... otherwise the board is bricked...

But ASUS better replace this board for me... or I am going to kick up a serious fuss. It's their utility... and nothing on their site says not to use the included ASUS update utility.

Heavy, really hope you get a new mobo if you bricked it!

You can order a new BIOS chip to replace the one on your paperweig... er... motherboard... Shouldn't be too expensive either

Yay, when I put the battery back it boots now! :D

sjoe.... karked my broekies there for a few minutes. :p

Thanks guys.

I don't see why he has to buy anything if it was their fault.

Well, the moral of the story is... as we learned from that forum link... don't use the ASUS BIOS update utility. I guess I was lucky as the update took. But it seems those guys are very much against it. There is a flash utility for a boot disk that ASUS provides. Use that rather.

I dunno why it got stuck on reboot though???

In the asus forums they recommend you only use the bios utility not the windows app when updating, I've never had problems with it.

The reason why it refused to boot is a settings incompatibility most likely and required a cmos reset.

AFAIK, updating BIOS does exactly that. And since it said it was successful, makes me more sure that it was successful. What I think probably happened is that the new BIOS has defaults that are not compatible with your hardware, hence your machine not booting. Removing the battery shouldn't revert to a previous BIOS, it'll only reset the values to "fail safe"
