AARTO demerit system in place ?

I've just got two fines (checked on Payfine - but no information other than location and amount) of R125.00 each on Beyers Naude. Judging by the price, I doubt they were very fast - but it does piss me off that the speed isn't listed ...

Anyway - I'm just curious about the demerit system. Is it in place as yet? I've googled and get many answered, but I'm not sure of the latest status on it.

Would one lose a point for every offense - or a little more major (ie not 70 in a 60)?

No, its not in place yet - some of the groundwork has not yet been completed.

Not sure what the implementation date is, think that it is only 2011.

If they don't specify the speed then you may be able to get them withdrawn - AFAIK it is a requirement.

Wait for the actual notification and check, it may just be Payfine that doesn't have the speeds.

The President has retracted AARTO Proclamations No 15 and 16 that were published in Government Gazette No 33114 on 16 April 2010 implementing the AARTO Act in the Municipalities of Ekurhuleni, Nelson Mandela Bay, City of Cape Town and eThekwini on 1 July 2010 and in the rest of the country on 1 November 2010.

No new dates were proclaimed, however the acting CEO from the RTMC has issued a press release indicating that AARTO will be implemented successfully in this financial year, ending 31 March 2011.

This means the Criminal Procedure Act, 1977 still applies in these areas for the prosecution of road traffic offences.
Please note AARTO is still in force in the Municipalities of Tshwane and Johannesburg.

Make that 18 years. I first heard of this waiting to be approved round about 1992... as with many things it has come to nothing much over a looong period.

Yep...lol, It will NEVER happen, not when people are STILL stealing numberplates and have fake drivers licenses etc. I also got 3 fines for speeding R500/R700/R300 in the same street with no picture, just the speed and the street name...speeds not exceeding 90kph??? It says strange things like "more than 87kph" and "more than 90kph" wtf?

I've heard that if I don't get a picture proving its my car...I shouldn't pay the fine???
