About to get Telkom Broadband

so thats R330 per month
plus once off router fee of R600

isn't there also a once off fee for the line installation?

And remember if you get your line rental from a third party like Axxess or Nashua or whoever, you can only get bandwidth from them. If your line provider is Telkom, you can get bandwidth from whoever you like.
 
which router should one get anyway? and best deal from where?
 
@deweyzeph. should have told ksingh to sit down first.
R328 /month for 1GB is excesive IMO.

another benefit of Telkom. but i guess one can move to Telkom if Axxess is no good cos there's no contract.

A nice linksys one. But remember there are routers and there are combo's; routers with modems and there are also basic modems only, like a USB one.

You need a DSL modem, and if you require, get a DSL modem / router combo, if you're a power user.

Check www.pricecheck.co.za for some online suppliers.

Just quickly.. How are you connecting to the internet at the moment?
 
I am at the office using their connection. I got a 3G MTN connection as well which i carry along with me. but the connection at home sux websense is not my friend for browsing facebook, youtube etc.
 
phoning telkom to get options. i must also either move or close my old pre-paid telkom line. will also call axxess.

This is wrong, Axxess allows you to use any ISP on their ADSL line.
 
ok, just got off the phone.

R425 installation fee for the phone line
R124 per month phone line rental
R199 per month for 384kbps and 1GB cap

will do the self install and save R543.91 on the free router.

So i pay R320 per month for the phone line, ADSL line and 1GB cap. Apparently there's a R700 refundable deposit which the call centre person did not mention!

gonna call Axxess shortly
 
IMO Beware of contracts. If Seacom does push down BW prices, you'll want to option to change ISPs.
 
ok, just got off the phone with Axxess

R425 installation fee for the phone line from Telkom
R500 payment for the router
R124 per month phone line rental to Telkom
R198 (R139ADSL rental+R59 cap) per month for 384kbps and 1GB cap

So i pay the same R320 per month for the phone line, ADSL line and 1GB cap.

Over a 2 yr period the difference is R476 which is effectively the router price. so all in all it works out the same. However if Telkom keeps my R700 deposit and Axxess pre-paid prices come down I stand to lose on the contract!

So it seems Axxess might be the better option over the 2 years.
 
A contract is never a good idea. Who knows what you're going to be doing one month from now, nevermind 24 months from now!
 
I hear you, I wonder if MWEB and @lantic offer about the same prices
