I am about to go nuts, Since Thursday last week, I have been pretty much on spotty 3G and 2G. Reported the issue to the coverage helpdesk I still had some 3G then even thought it maxed out at 2mbps it was still some what usable.Since Yesterday EMPTYN decided to disable 3G entirely.That meant connecting at 2G speeds, however 2G speeds are currently at an average of around 80kbps, which means it takes about 2 minutes to load mybb, more then often just times out.

MTN indicated when phoned the problem will be only be looked at in the next 10 working days, not fixed, looked at so if it requires action by some one it will likely take another 10 days, meaning I will likely only have access somewhere towards never.......

At least I managed to disable website image loading which has marginally improved things at least, I am considering either getting a vodacon sim or porting one of the spare sim cards I have here.

Friday is also coming and planning on doing a few online purchases, which seems pretty feeble to attempt now.

Sigh FML !

Okay managed to get the 3G working at least It requires that you connect to an edge connection, load MDMA while the connection is still active and then switch the connection to 3G only and leave it for a few minutes after which it connects to the 3G network no issue.

Still not full speed but considerably better

After I chewed them out, within an hour the problem was finally fixed. Lucky today I see I got my revenge with the rest of south Africa being screwed over

Actually they just phoned me as well. Which is quite the surprise, Not sure why you have to get mental first before action is taken.It would be nice if you log a call, report back this and this is the issue and will take so many days to get fixed, their email replies is generic and frustrating to say the least, doesn't give any information just simply there is a problem and working on it.I guess for the none technically inclined or when you have access to additional towers or move out of the area your in regularly it wouldn't be a problem, however living in a rural area, and this being the sole tower, the impact is far greater overall.

What I don't understand it's not exclusive to MTN, but generally you need to bump heads, before some thing gets sorted, my butt puckers up faster then at a gay pride event, when I have to ask a second time or when I have to call you back after promises were made to do so.

Luckily we have a telkom landline we don't phone on it, it's really only there for after hours calls and emergencies, but considering when the tower goes, you are pretty much "cut off" from the rest of the world, next closest tower is 40Km away in either direction, there is some 2G coverage, being close to Lesotho I am in a pretty mountains region of the freestate, 50m elevation drop can mean no signal.

I prefer loading the forum in Tapatalk. It is unnecessarily big when loading from a browser. I'm not sure about the mobile version that might be smaller.
I noticed the size when my connection dipped to edge and remained there a few hours. The 100's of kilobytes is then huge.

The irony was when I got here in 2007 I started out with cellc GPRS on my nokia 3230 or some thing, cellc then did a network update in 2008 ish which resulted in not being able to directly activate airtime vouchers, or make calls with this tower, I had to physically get signal from another tower to be able to load vouchers or make calls.

Said the hell with that and moved onto MTN till about 2013, is only when we got 3G here, vodacom only got 3G in 2015 ish, and this year LTE which I haven't tested as yet, as the coverage is spotty at best on the map.

Since 1998 till 2013 I have only ever had GPRS, EDGE, or dial up, Was using firefox 4 at the time which allowed disabling images loading or java and flash.Back then it was still okay, you can't view a page on edge even if you turn off image and java for example, it's interesting that text only loading compared to 2011 has changed some how.

I definitely need to test out vodacom LTE out and see if I can get some signal here, and keep a sim active and near by, just in case things go darkest deepest jungle out here, and revert to my primordial urges of kicking, biting and screaming, it's funny this week has been much like the 5 stages of grief Guess I am an addict.
