Maybe two of MyBB most hated.

Anywoo, I'm trying to make an online payment for my Telkom account. I go through the steps as usual of adding Telkom as a beneficiary but when I do the last step Absa says I can't add Telkom as a beneficiary as I do not have the correct account number

Has this happened to anyone before?

Yep... the "account number" for internet banking is not the same as the normal account number. I can't remember, it maaaay be on your bill somewhere, it's quite a long number. Alternatively you can give telkom a call to get the number.

Look on the back of the invoice. It's a much longer number.

Not sure about Absa but you don't usually add companies like Telkom as you would for normal beneficiaries as the large corporates are already preloaded and you just have to select them from a drop down menu/list. The only thing you require is the unique identifier made up of several numbers on your bill,

All three those numbers strung together without spaces will make up the number you have to add to your online banking thing.

Call Telkom and ask them to explain it to you. They explained it to me a while back. You have to put certain numbers together that are present on your invoice to get a special account number and that's the number you use to make the EFTs with.

100% correct

Telkom, Municipal accounts etc are bank approved beneficeries (sp). no need to enter account nos, just your ref no, which with a Telkom is your account no.

Not quite true - see ponder's post above.

You may pay your Telkom account by means of Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs), Internet or telephone banking transfer facilities. ABSA, FNB, Mercantile Bank, Nedbank and Standard Bank offer these facilities to Telkom customers. Arrange with your bank to pay your account through any of these means by providing your bank with a unique number. The unique number consist of the Group No, System number and payment code combined as one number. This can be found on the bottom of the front page of your bill under Mail Payment slip.

Note : This number is valid for your account only.

The last time I asked about adding Telkom as a beneficiary to my bank account list I was told it is best to let the bank add it for you. Has this changed?
That effort made me change my mind and I rather just go pay and then also call them with the payment details to ensure it is captured a few days later.

It's really not that hard people.

Just use the 19 digit number as the beneficiary number NOT your account number with Telkom (top right)

Holy crap batman, lay off the witblitz, you are two years late to the party :D

Thanks for the info guys (still seems up to date and working, sorry for resurrecting zombi), I think it's Absa making it very confusing by asking for your TELKOM account number... when they don't want your 'account number' they want the EFT number.

This is shown on the top of a bill AND is the same as the groupNo + System No + Payment Code combined in one long 19 digit number.

Thanks for helping me verify guys!
