The latest app update pops up with a warning that my phone is rooted and after the next update the app won't work, ostensibly "to protect my data"...

It's across all operating systems. If the operating system has been manipulated in any way to compromise it's stability or security these apps will no longer work on said operating system. I am on iOS and there are ways around this but it really isn't the safest thing to do with banking so I just rather don't use my jailbroken phone for banking.

And their useless app reports false positives. My Z2 is unaltered and it still sees it as rooted. Useless!!!!

This should really be a requirement in the banking industry, and any app that deals with such sensitive info! While on one hand it's your right to root your phone, the bank also has a right to ensure that access is only granted in the most secure situation possible.

I got around it on my rooted G2 by using an Xposed module called RootCloak. Worked fine for the DSTV app...

Can you detail which app names you blocked using RootCloak? I cant seem to get this to work with the ABSA app

One day when enough of you have downloaded an app that is actually reading info from your banking app while appearing to do something else entirely and thousands of people suddenly find themselves "hacked", the banks aren't going to want to deal with thousands of morons that got done in so they are covering their own asses and yours to an extent.

So Raithlin did you just add ABSA (com.barklays.absa.ui) and nothing else? Doesn't seem to work for me. I still get the warning when I open the ABSA app.

You misunderstand. I got DSTV to work, but never even tried ABSA. I don't use them, but yes, adding the app should be enough. It was for SnapScan too.

Well then those banks need to get rid of their developers if they're that kuk to not know how to secure the app properly. The app shouldn't even store any sensitive data on the device, so you're clutching at straws here.

You're also giving the impression that the play store only has legit applications on it, and that that these apps cannot penetrate the security of stock android. You'll be surprised

By the way, my phone's rooted and my Standard Bank app works just fine. :)

What? Rooting compromises safety only via the initial permission request. An app won't have any access to your data unless you grant it said access.

Whether your phone is rooted or not, if you grant the app the permissions, it will do that anyway. So yeah, the banks won't want to deal with the moron who didn't take the time to check the permissions the malware app requested.

I have yet to make a successful payment with that app when I want to do anything that involves sending proof of payment.
This morning I tried paying rent with it.
Does not accept the fax number I am supposed to send proof of payment to (the same number I have been using for years via the website).
