Absa Bank Tygervallei have 3 Auto Tellers. As they get full you are unable to make deposits, only withdrawals. They then wait for all three to be full before they are serviced. Staff advise clients to bank inside at a extra cost. On Monday it took more than 5 hours before any deposits could be made at any of these machines. In the meantime clients standing in long queues outside the bank. Inside the bank staff have no clue regards service to clients. Before opening in the morning waited outside and could see bank staff standing around chatting in side. First customer to be allowed in. When it came that a copy had to be made, none of the copy machines had toner in to make a copy. Another runaround of 15 minutes to find tonner, unlock doors etc.,
ABSA Bank calls that service. Staff at Tygervalley could not be concerned. Just like the old SAR, SIT AND REST

Capitec also likes to let their cash accepting ATMs 'cycle'. Rather than use a cash handling company to clear the machine, they simply stop accepting deposits until enough withdrawals have happened.

Problems this morning with ABSA card transactions not going through at point of sale (Pick 'n Pay for example)

subsequently received an SMS saying point of sale transactions have been temporarily blocked on my card and to go into online banking to correct the setting, which I promptly did just to find no setting to correct (all block/unblock settings e.g. international / online remain as they were).

Phoned credit card division

- third person I was put through to was helpful: Known recent system issue due to current software upgrades

- nothing that can be done from my or their side at this stage to remedy.

No ETA for completion of software testing on guinea pigs (ABSA clients).

Same thing hitting Virgin Money cards which use ABSA infrastructure, declines yesterday and today at POS followed by an SMS each time:
Absa: Transaction not authorised. There seems to be a technical error. Please try again later. Auth FSP/NCRCP7

Also phoned credit card division, got told it's a "general MasterCard issue, all cards being declined at POS and ATMs", no word of a botched software upgrade, apparently there's a number you can dial to have your profile reset which results in some cards becoming unstuck ... didn't bother with that as I have another card to use as a backup.

BUT wtf?!? looks like someone f-ed up big time

Thanks guys, you saved me a trip to Makro if my Virgin Money card would be declined. If it's a MasterCard issue it should affect Capitec too.
