Hi all,

Anyone else notice a few extra rands going off their absa account for "Maintenance fee", "Admin fee", "Internet banking fee", "SMS notification fee" etc. Just some of the random terms they used in my account statements to take my money.

In 2017, i opened a savings account that offered free internet banking, for under R5 per month. I know this, because 1 of my requirements was that my account must have internet banking, and they had this option for R5 pm.

Not paying much attention to the account until now, i have noticed that every month since July 2017, my account fees have been R5 - R40 per month, and not the R5-flat I was expecting to pay.

Over the year, it seems that I am out R280 for bull**** charges.

I came across a thread that had the same issues in 2007. Shocking to see that its still going on.

Funny enough, the reason for me opening a savings account with ABSA was because I closed my Cheque, investments, Credit card etc. (because of such sh** service). My home loan was with them so i still needed a savings acc (easy to transfer with access bond).

Looks like i need to consider closing my bond and savings, and cut all ties with ABSA.

It's pay-as-you-use so only if you don't use it you'll only pay the R5 account fee though internet banking should be free. Move over to Capitec bank.

ABSA is extremely expensive, boardroom malfunction. Have you noticed how arrogant these people get working with other peoples money-?

You will find certain Internetbanking transactions only get debited at the end of the month now, prepaid gets deducted immediately, things like cash send or immediate EFT's only get deducted at month end.You also get charged for sms notfications after you have reached your monthly allocation.

This fee shows as internet banking fee then you have the monthly savings account fee of R25.00 odd rand, which shows as admin fee.

So I don't know why they don't simply deduct it as the transaction is completed like they use to.

Besides that my Debit card expired two years ago, they wanted a renewal fee of R150.00 odd for a savings account I told them to go blow them self. My account still works, and use it entirely just for debit orders and airtime.

FNB costs me R5 odd a month and pay as I transact none of this month end deductions carp.....

Your bank account does not have to be at the same bank as your bond...
