Call his bank.
He gave you his account number, I think ABSA.
Call ABSA fraud tomorrow and tell them this guy scammed you, not sure what they can do but I have heard of accounts being frozen. Send them all the screenshots and correspondence between you two

Plot twist, OP gets the money and the guy convinces him that's proof he is legit, he invests even more and now he is good and properly scammed.

The fact that he hasn't blocked him and they are still having a civil conversation means he is not yet ready to call it quits.
R2500 is not a lot, if I was a scammer I would have given it to him before he panics, but he is most probably still not sure if OP has more money to invest.
