Absa has trademarked a new logo

With Absa gearing up to 'relaunch' with a new look and corporate identity next week, pending trademark registrations with the*Companies and Intellectual Property Commission have revealed what the group's new logo could look like.

As a designer, you'll probably over-engineer it. Look at logos of companies like Microsoft, Sony, etc.

Those infamous simple logos are aesthetically pleasing, this one not so much.

Sony and Microsoft logo's look good, simple is the trend these days but is not

This doesn't look good, but i think its the same reaction i had when mastercard changed their logo.

Nothing wrong with a serif font, in fact it's ideal for some logos. It's mostly frowned upon for paragraphs of text.

That is all it is. This Absa logo is similar. Non-divisive and neutral. Your bias makes you interpret it in whichever way. Only issue I noticed is at small sizes the text in the center will become illegible, which is a fail for a modern logo. Otherwise it's perfectly fine for it's purpose.

The path to more customers so that you don't fail as a bank isn't a change of logo. It's a change in service, policies and price.

There's a reason why your own employees would rather bank with FNB than their employer (even with the benefits offered)
