Absa introduces two-factor authentication to combat SIM-swap fraud

Galaxy S7. I would literally need to reset my phone and never install any kind of system app and hope that it works.

So the ABSA app is not the only app giving you kack? Or what do you mean never install any kind of system app?

I've had the app on a Sony Xperia Compact, LG G3, and now my G6. No problems.

It's only the ABSA app. Reason I said the last part is because I read a while back that some people who installed certain apps like Greenify caused the ABSA app to fail the SafetyNet check. ABSA-lutely ridiculous.

That is odd, and I can imagine that being annoying. I wonder if any other S7 users have the same issues?

I'm assuming the phone has the stock ROM on it.

Yes, stock. But since I have some other system apps on there, it's possible it's throwing off the ABSA app for some reason, which is utterly retarded.

Hide Rooting Lite, App Quarantine, DisableService, Package Disabler, Uninstall and Titanium Backup.

I believe the ABSA app does not support a rooted device (don't ask why, security concern perphaps?).

I use the Hide Rooting Lite app on my media player to enable me to use DSTV Now, but perhaps is does not work for the ABSA app. Who knows.

I'm aware it doesn't work on rooted devices, but my point is that I'm currently not rooted and yet it still won't work. Others have the same problem. The apps I listed before, I actually only use Titanium. Whether I'm rooted or not, it still won't work. My best bet is to wipe my phone.

I also that hide rooting app but it doesn't work for the ABSA app.

I can imagine your frustration :( It's like Google Photos that never ever worked on my phone, until I upgraded to a G6

I partly blame Android for this, an OS which seems to be in a permanent beta version :p

Hehe, thanks. I just wish mybb would contact ABSA and get some clarification. Right now, everything is up in the air.

And what if their retarded app doesn't work on your phone (which is around 90% of the complaints on the Play Store)? We can no longer do banking? Whoever decided on this needs to have their head examined. There should be a secondary mechanism. What are the rest of us going to do? Not bank?

You cut your losses and move to a more competent bank?

Where you previous had internet banking, you are now forced into mobile banking (with good data connection).
If you are on a farm with landline, you could use internet banking and even authorize transactions with the RVN code to your phone.
But now, when mobile data connection is patchy, you are screwed.

How sure are you about that?

Why didn't they just say this from the get-go?

At least now I don't have to worry.

I guess one negative is one will not be able to use the app on the phone.

That is so. It requires you to have data, and a connection.

But people are complaining about SMS being insecure. What to do?
