Absa introduces two-factor authentication to combat SIM-swap fraud

And what if their retarded app doesn't work on your phone (which is around 90% of the complaints on the Play Store)? We can no longer do banking? Whoever decided on this needs to have their head examined. There should be a secondary mechanism. What are the rest of us going to do? Not bank?

Glad to see they have prioritised the important things.
:crylaugh:

Capitec has a fallover where you can generate a security key using the app. Which works even when the phone is in airplane mode.

+1

I'm hardly surprised. Some banks are actually trying to make life easier for their customers.

They should make it optional and rather use standard 2FA supported by google authenticator, authy etc. I can just see it now that they push an app update that doesn't work and you're locked out of your account until they fix it.

I hope they are prepared for the inevitable backlash. Thousands of users won't be able to make any payments. Just watch this ****storm...

What bothers me even more is that people who have not even rooted their phones also cannot use the app, because the app says they're rooted.

This is where businesstech actually needs to get off their ass and get someone from absa to answer some questions.

Installed it on 3 iPhones so far and it worked perfectly on each of them.

Seems like it is only the Android app that is buggy.

Very glad that ABSA removed the weak link in the chain.

Welcome to the 21st century.
I actually activated online banking with them, the other day. Never had a use for it, cause my main account is with FNB. The app didn't work first time. So i went back to them and they told me, that I must keep the app open, while I transact. I shouldn't transact and then at the prompt for authentication, open the app, then it won't work.

Just wondering what the case will be for ABSA customers outside of SA at the moment.

If they install the Android app and run into problems, what can they do?

Which phone do you have that the app does not work on?

I was just about to say this.

Use Magisk SefetyNet. It fools apps into thinking your phone is unrooted.

It doesn't work. It passes SafeteyNet but the d00s app still won't open. Just read the comments on the Play Store. There are people who have not even rooted who can't use the app.

Galaxy S7. I would literally need to reset my phone and never install any kind of system app and hope that it works.
