Got an SMS from ABSA welcoming me to their transaction notification service, NotifyMe.

I did not request the service - this was done totally unilaterally by ABSA.

Called them and they told me that every notification SMS will cost me 45 cents.

I told them to cancel this service, and the call centre operator sent through an e-mail to their relevant section to do so.

They made a rand or two out of me before I stopped it and if they do this to every client, they will make a fat lot before people get the chance to cancel this.

Scum of the earth and all of that ......

ask them to give your money back, if they take R2 out of each of their customers..then they scam quite a big deal. and even tell them to compensate for the interest you lost.

Just looked online and don't see these charges on my ABSA account.

I'm also subscribed to this and there is a charge for it. It's listed as notification sms or something

ABSA seems to LOVE subscribing people for everything without their say-so. I was signed up for additional credit card insurance despite stating quite clearly that I didn't want it and it took a lot of irate e-mails before I got the charge reversed.

I have NotifyMe and it doesn't cost me a cent?
I didn't subscribe to it, and it doesn't appear on my account.

I don't get email notices, and don't think they're sending SMS (out of country so can't confirm if they attempt sending SMS).

It is absolutely against the law - they have in fact entered into a unilateral agreement for which they do not have your consent.
