ABSA vs. FNB

Just got a call from FNB and they will take my ABSA bond with no cost up the the same amount registered and 50% discount of the fees for the the registration of an additional amount.
They will only confirm if they can match the 13% rate I get at ABSA once they receive the application.

My bet is that they won't be able to - Good interest rates seem to be a thing of the past.

I heard the Dept of finance is honing in on the bank's banking charges and are seeking to standardize all the banking charges.

Everyone, please do yourselves a favour.. FNB gold current account on the fee saver option is practically free.. That coupled with the virgin money credit card.. I havent paid any bank fees in months, no joke.. Catch is you have to keep a min balance of 9k in your account, the opportunity cost of which comes to about R22.50 a month.. suits me..

Anyway, hope you're slightly more enlightened by my 2 cents..

Hi, I dunno if this helps, but I started to compile a table on the comparative student/ low cost accounts available to ABSA, FNB and Nedbank. Heres the linked document

ABSA is indeed very expensive with all their bank costs and such, been with them for the past 23 years..I Won't be going through all the trouble to change banks. Can still afford their bank costs so won't be switching anytime soon..

I think this is one of the reasons they take advantage of us. I'm with Standard Bank and considering switching but the pain of changing banks is just too much. Yes FNB might move all your debit orders for you but its the small things that count. Having a new banker, new pins etc

I switched from Standard Bank to FNB in December and it was pretty painless.
I moved all my own debit orders even though FNB would have done it for free.
Took me one trip to FNB, one to Standard Bank and a few phone calls to change debit orders.
I think it's more laziness than being a pain but that's just my opinion of course. :)

FNB's Internet banking is light years ahead of Standard Bank's.
