Absa bank has warned their customers via SMS not to be conned into giving out their personal details to potential scammers.

The official SMS reads: “Absa Warning! Absa will never send you an email to update banking or personal details. Don’t get caught by the latest online phishing scam.”

It appears that online crooks are once again rearing their ugly heads but this time Absa is on the ball and have warned their clients.

Absa recommends that customers refrain from using publicly accessible computers and suggest switching to SMS alerts rather than email. In future RVN notifications will only be offered via SMS and the bank has urged their clients using email alerts to switch.

It seems that Absa has identified emails as being a potential security risk and are trying to limit the dangers by introducing new policies.

Hats off to Absa for warning their customers about the dangers of disclosing private information via email. Whilst it is common sense to most email savvy users, it never hurts to educate the market, especially people who may be new to this form of communication.
