How do you know its a potential scammer?
When ever the banks phone me, the number on my cell is "blocked" (private number, withheld etc).
So I very clearly tell them that I will not continue the conversation until such time that the number they are calling from is displayed.
It is high time all consumers did the same - just because Shaun / Phumzile say they are from ABSA does not make it so.
I don't know what 'RVN' notifications are, but I hope moving to SMS instead of email isn't a trend.
I often use internet banking overseas where I don't have a SA cellphone, so forcing one time pin numbers etc to be sent over SMS would severely restrict the usefulness of internet banking.
I've mailed ABSA about the RVN only via SMS, but no reply yet. I’m going traveling for a few months and this is a big issue for me. I’ve asked what’s my options at a branch and they told me that I must change my cell number to someone who can e-mail me the RVN
