Im getting so f*cked off with telkom.

After the lack of bandwidth reports last week i arrived home to find out that my Bandwidth limit had been reached and exceeded. I had been away for a week, so my DSL account should have had little or no activity at all.
I attempted to login to the telkom online tracker, acess was denied, i then called the "Tech support" desk: my user password had been changed(?) so i changed the password to a new one.

I reset my router and logged into the tracker a few minutes later, and not to my surprise (its not the first time) my bandwidth was sitting at 4.7GB total (Dec 20th). Again I ranted and raved at the "Tech support" person about how someone else obtained my user name and password and proceeded not only to use up my bandwidth but exceed it by 1.7GB in a single day.
Thier answer was that someone was obviously using my account illegally, they then pointed out that it was a possiblility that I had given my user name and password to someone to use or that someone hijacked my account. WTF!

This clever person, whom i thinks is on the inside; managed to upload/ download 4GB in a single day.....
This morning i recieved the Bandwidth report and i was stunned, from my understanding us users are allocated 3GB to use for a +-30day period, this mornings report stated that the accounts bandwidth limit was sitting at 6.5GB!!
Here`s a copy of my BW report:

Like i said this isnt the first time this has happened, everymonth for the last 3months, someone has hacked into my account and given me one up the ass.

I wanna know what telkom is doing about this, its costing me money and my security is at stake, i mean surly if someone can obtain your user name/ password from telkom, it must be just as easy as obtaining your phone number/ ID number/ bank details from them. Are they corrupt or is there system currupt?

Does anyone have any contacts were i can pursue this matter further? Sending an email to [email protected] just doesnt do it for me.

Those techs at phone support can see your password on their screen once you give them your account name.

The 3Gig limit is for international and local combined. After that you can continue to download locally at full speed.

If you were in the US, you could probably sue the company for giving out personal details.

Clearly, I think that it must be a Telscum employee because you have changed your username/password a couple of times and as Andre said, once they got your username, they've got your password as well.

Maybe reporting to www.hellkom.co.za wouldn't be a bad idea....

Im looking around, i noticed Hellkom has some help with listings and deals. i think im gonna hang tight till Febuary, seems alot will be going down by then...

How secure is your system ???.
Changed the default passwords on your router ???.
Did you leave your router on while you were gone ???.

Have you got Anti-virus software installed ??
Do you have a firewall ??

If not your pc could possibly be used for sending spam, etc using backdoors trojans, etc.

Just something to keep in mind.

My PC is tight, im on it like 20hours of the day, so i keep it in good shape. Im confident its telkom. Its so typically there style.

my one pc got some freaky spy ware or virus and managed to fill my cap in one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i went into the modem config and saw something was sending data over net,
i then went through the house switching off pc's until it stopped

after i had adsl for 3 days:

Uploaded: 1.58GB
Downloaded: 2.02GB
Combined Total: 3.61GB

did a virus scan on pc and ran spy bot and adaware
it is hopefully fine now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

something strange that I noticed that some accounts (business) can't surf local even after being capped however putting a capped home user account in and it works fine.... wats up with that?

That is exactly the kind of thing that would've driven me into a straight-jacket. I am all for social responsibility when it comes to schools & education, but why is it that residential customers get treated better than business by the "Telkomonopoly", why can we not get charged the same, given the same disservice, is one less important than the other? Ek strip my moer!

Stolen!!!!!

My 'unused' account (i have 2 accounts) is sitting on 1.6Gig and the current account i have been using 24/7 up to 12/01/2005 (according to the adsl stats page -- 26gig total and capped locally???[std 3gig account]) , but the other account 'I' have also been logged on 24/7 for 2/3 days.

This is clear theft, someone is using my accounts (I'm changing passwords monthly, maybe i should change is weekly), unless of course Telkom have been reselling accounts, but this is not the first time this has happened.

Surely Telkom should beable to track the culprits, have a log with the adsl account used and the adsl tel number? If so, then I would open a case against the thief.

Does anyone know of a good nuker program?? The persons ip appears in my adsl stats page and I would really like to give that person a piece of my mind...

And a last strange accurance : How is is possible for someone to get this ip : 165.x.x.0 (I changed the x's, but the 0 is the odd one)

Somewhat forceful reminder...

ADSL people, the theft of ADSL ISP account usernames & passwords, as well as illegal usage of the bandwidth you are paying for, and the issues relating to online usage stats, should be mentioned in:
[post=155789]the questionnaire that you need to email to ICASA by 16th January (click here for RPM's announcement)[/post].

as you mentioned, a "nuker" wont help since the guy is most prob on a new ip by the time you see his listed ip.

Telkom can easily give you stats and trace users, But thats "alot" of hard work. And why would Telkom do some work when they can sit back and get paid neways.
