Abysmal PSN download speeds on MWEB

I know PSN download speeds are awful almost worldwide, but these days I'm looking at taking two solid days to download a 600MB patch -- if it doesn't time out. My DSL line usually syncs at about 2.5Mb/s, so this seems abnormally slow. I'm not experiencing these kind of download speeds via Xbox Live or Steam, as far as I can tell.

Has anyone had similarly slow downloads via MWEB? I seem to be getting similar results via a WebAfrica account, but I had several responses on Twitter from other MWEB customers experiencing the same lethargic downloads from PSN specifically. I've tried asking MWEB customer service to at least investigate, but they prefer to fence with me before offering advice or theories.

Regardless, my internet service is practically broken on this particular platform. Any ideas?

Hi MrGenuchi,

I myself download from the PSN server and yes it is slow at times and I have an uncapped 1MB unshaped account.

There could also be many other variables that could play a role in slow download speeds and not just ISP related.

Like you mentioned it's the same via your WebAfrica account. We currently do not have Akamai content cached however we are working hard on getting EA content cached.

Please see link below:

The main line in this article would be: MWEB will continue its lobbying for local dedicated instances for Console Gamers.

Please provide me with your MWEB account details and I'll do some checks for you.

You can be sure to know that MWEB is paving the path for greater Gaming experience and not just resting on their laurels.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

If you are doing this via the PS3 built in wifi there is your problem, I used to get really crap speeds until I plugged it in directly via the ethernet port.
