My adapter went for a ball of $h!t a while back. Was quoted R300 for a new one at a local electronics store. Ended up buying a 3.5" external case from a computer shop for R130 that came with an AC adapter that worked with my drive. I've got a Verbatim though, but as long as the voltage matches, you should be golden. As far as I'm aware, they're pretty standard. I've used it on a few drives, Toshiba and Seagate 3.5". Worked fine.

Proceed with caution though. Can't speak for the WD specifically, but it should work.

Just had a look at my replacement AC Adapter. It's a 12v 2A, and the original is 12v 1.5A, which is the same as the WD you have. It should work.

Why pay R285 and the plug is not even correct when you can get a generic for R50...

Also the OP can look around his house and see if he has a old 12V adapter with 1.5A+ capacity lying around and use that, it the connectors are different just cut the wires, join, solder, cover with heat shrink if you cant get the thing open to solder the cord to the pcb.
