Acceleration; Polo 1.4 vs i20 1.4

Don't know how reliable this source is but you should still catch my drift:

HYUNDAI i20 1.4

Why is it that the i20 has better stats regarding Kw and Torque but it is slower to 100? Or should one be looking at the "@5500" stuff?

Why is it that the i20 has better stats regarding Kw and Torque but it is slower to 100? Or should one be looking at the "@5500" stuff?

Well, the difference is so small. Why even bother comparing the two. :D

But for interest sake, I think it's because of the power to weight ratios. Gear ratios also play a big role.

EDIT: Shorter gear ratios allow faster acceleration but lowers the top spead. The Polo has slightly shorter gear ratios but it's such a small difference. Who knows?

I constantly get mocked at Golf 6 GTI is only slightly behind me despite having 188kw and 400nm ... but as was said, weight and gear ratios play a huge role

I honestly didn't notice the i20 was auto. The crux of my question was still, why is it possible that some cars with lower kw and torque have better acceleration. I see that the gear ratios and weight would have an impact.

I have the i20 (2009, old shape, much better looking IMO than the new shape) and would like the new shape Polo but really don't like that it doesn't have USB in it. For some reason it's a really big selling point for me.
 
It would seem logical that if the power only comes up high in the rev band, that it could be slower than a car with lower overall power, but where the power comes quickly at low revs.
 
i20 has alot more specs for price and is very Fuel Efficient a Friend get's around 4.0 L/100km on avg.

Simple Answer : Gearing
 
Gearing, but also the Type of motor the VW's are more Torque Motor than High Revving one's, also a bit more of an older designed motor actually that was brought along in the 6R Range.

Where as the Hyundai with it's DOHC and CVVT is more of a High Revving motor, but in this also has plenty of Torque and even with that having driven my sister's 2012 i20 1.6 (2009 Shape) it feel's more comfortable within the 3000-4000 rev range than all the way to 6000 rpm's, only has 5000 km's on though.

would still take the polo over the hyundia. not much power difference, but the polo looks awsome where the i20 has more features
