Acceptable Speed for 8mbit ADSL

I am looking at getting Axxess 4mb premium uncapped or 8mb home uncappped. Vox is killing me with the throttling. Can I get 8mb as my max rate on the router is 9332kbps.

If your modem is really good then maybe because your attenuation is horrible.

Either 10Mbps or you're on interleaved (though inteinterleaved usually 9Mbps/ 10-15% higher sync). Ask for a statement.

Yeah the attenuation worries me as I am a bit far from the exchange.

That's the highest you will get. I get max 420 on a 4meg line.

I usually get around 470 to 490 on my 4meg line.

I doubt it, but on adsl2 it might work out. I had terrible line drops when moving to 8mb, but I suspect a line issue.

It depends on how much you use each month. Maybe monitor your usage and you can get a capped account based on your average. I have a capped 4mbps account at the moment and there is no throttling, and the data you don't use gets rolled over to the next month. There is also a top up option for R7 per 1Gb. The 100gb capped 4mbps option is about R60 cheaper each month.

I had great speeds on my 8mbit line before this weekend. On Saturday morning I got a message from Telkom saying that there's some ADSL problems in my area.

Speed was terrible then as you can see on the pic. Later that evening I did another speed test and the results was much better than before.

I see that my modem is sync speed is now well over 10000kbps.

Hope it stays like that.
