Good news about WhatsApp privacy policy changes

Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp will no longer force users to accept its controversial new privacy policy to continue using the app.

This is according to a report from WABetaInfo, a site known for reporting accurately on features coming to WhatsApp based on early tests it discovers in beta versions of the app.

I already accepted.

I always accept
Nothing to hide here on my phone
I do not do dick peens pics

Their end to end encryption is total bullcrap anyway. I sent a whatsapp to my friend asking if he was done with my tap and dye set then suddenly the next day I get ads on Fakebook for tap and dye sets.

I took WhatsApp at their word, and closed my account months ago on the first notice. Life actually went on and many are on Telegram, Signal and other platforms. I seriously won't trust WhatsApp or Facebook again - this was really the straw that broke the camel's back for me. There are other services which don't have advertisers and metadata for sale as the central part of their business.

Telegram isn't as secure as you think it is either.

Not by default, no, but that was not what I was claiming. I was just noting that most of my friends and family are anyway on Telegram and Signal. A big difference, however, is that neither Telegram nor Signal are in the metadata or advertising business, so there is not that driving force for them to sell your metadata. If one wants that privacy on Telegram there is secret chats, and one can of course completely hide their cellphone number from all other users, which neither WhatsApp nor Signal yet does. The better apps like Wire, Session, Jami, Matrix, Threema, WickrMe, etc I just don't find my friends or family migratuin to.
