A buddy of mine bumped a pedestrian whilst turning right. The pedestrian injured her arm and was taken to hospital via ambulance for a check up.

The accident was reported at local saps. Who is at fault and what is the liability here?

What were the circumstances? Was it a stop street? Pedestrian crossing? If robot, what colour was the pedestrian light?

That all depends on the circumstances of the accident.

We'd need more details of exactly what happened.

Your buddy is at fault. Probably should pay any medical costs resulting from it

More detail.

It occurred at a robot. It was green and the driver turned right from the turning lane. The pedestrian had green or flashing red to cross

Your buddy is at fault. Pedestrians have right of way except if it was a steady red light for pedestrians...

Its pretty much a case of when a light goes green and a driver is turning that the pedestrian will have right of way at that point.
Either way, if you hit a pedestrian in SA you are to blame, regardless of if that pedestrian was breaking the law at the time.

A dash cam would have been helpful in that case. Your buddy is at fault but almost everything is debatable im court.

If the little man was green or blinking red, then its not debatable at all, the buddy is at fault.

I dont understand why the Green Man goes green for pedestrians and the Green light goes green for cars at the same time.

When else is it supposed to go green for pedestrians? If they don't walk with the flow of traffic, they will be knocked by perpendicular traffic. And a pedestrian-only green light would create havoc with traffic, so it's the best compromise...
