Accounting Software recomendations

I need to get some Accounting software for my start up. I'm currently looking at Pastel My Business, but I was wondering if you guys could recommend any better/easier packages that I could use?

It must be able to track how much I owe suppliers, invoicing, debtors and most importantly VAT (long story, but trust me don't mess around with SARS). :D

my company uses SAP and Nicor...
both very good, but i'd say Nicor is a bit easier and more manageable.

never used Pastel or Acpac, so can't really judge.

Nicor is a winner though. And its local = cheap
 
Don't go for Pastel. It corrupts easier than a 14 year old horny teenager

Why not use Turbocash? It's open source - and free to download - and it is made in SA.
 
I have tried Turbocash twice now and its a bit of a pain to setup. No wizards and no proper help file. If you dont realy know what you doing you going to struggle. I always have issues loading stock. I'm going with Quickbooks I have had a few ppl recommend it over Pastel
 
I've got Pastel My Business and it's pretty easy to use, but it is basic. It seems to have a feature to handle VAT, but since I'm not VAT registered I haven't tested it out. For the rest it should be able to handle your needs as long as you always use invoices to bill clients and get items from suppliers.
 
pastel is good, SAP is the best, but if you're a mom and pop shop...microsoft money is probably the easiest to figure out and use....also speak to your local SARS or try the SMME development corp., also there are generally locally made packages available from a number of small IT companies that can help you create bills, receipts and payslips.

Worst case scenario is you can build an acess database...you'll be surprised what M$ can do actually

Most FET colleges will say Pastel..

I think that MS Money is up for free download as it's reached end of life. At that price it's really worth a look!

Given that he needs VAT support I doubt that MS Money is going to be at all useful.

I would also recommend Quickbooks.
