Was not much point to even try then. The Government had it locked up tighter than a superhuman sphincter. The then government and DoC would have blocked any new cables from landing in order to protect their Telkom cash cow. In fact, Ivy even made rumbles to try and block these cables. She tried to force them to be 50% locally owned, but finally relented to 50% African owned.

Today is a different Telecomms environment.

Thanks for the list Ponder. This is exactly what we need...they will have to battle it out for market share, and we already see what SEACOM did to international bandwidth prices.

The next bottleneck is national bandwidth - Telkom, Neotel/Infraco and soon Neotel/MTN/Vodacom. We need one or two more...

What would be cool is two or so carrier companies with nationwide OF saturation & for LLU to kick in with Telkom.

Who is the SA partner for this cable? Or are they just going to leave a loose fibre cable lying on Blouberg Strand?

And why does the SEACOM cable get all skinny after Kenya? Is that so the pirates don't steal the bandwidth?

Isnt there talks of a phase 2 of the Main-One cable extending to SA too?
