Acer Google TV Streaming Box

Inb4 the it needs more ram crowd arrives.

Also, white so no.

Does Acer still make stuff? Don't they just rebrand and market other stuff?
Probably just a rebrand of some cheap Chinese tv box.

2GB ram on a newly released media device in 2025, wtf is this?!
It’s clearly just another budget box for who knows what considering there is so many in the market already.

Acer surprises with a plethora of ports on its first ever Google TV box - HDTVtest

Acer isn’t known for being a major player in streaming boxes, but it seems like it wants to change that after announcing the pre-order availability of the AiTV, or Acer 4K UHD Google TV Box, for consumers in South Africa.

The company seems to have chosen South Africa to test the waters for its first streaming device, which stands out not because of its specifications, but rather because of the staggering number and variety of ports on offer. Whereas most streaming boxes available these days are somewhat lacking in terms of their connectivity options, the AiTV is absolutely packed, offering every kind of port one could ever hope for.

Turn it around and you’ll find ports for HDMI, USB-C and USB-A cables, an Ethernet port and a microSD card slot for adding storage. There’s a Toslink S/PDIF Optical Audio port, for those who want to connect a soundbar or an amplifier without looping the audio signal through the TV. There’s even a separate power outlet, which means the USB-C port is freed up for connecting some other kind of device. Wi-Fi 6 is also supported.

There’s a bit of ambiguity about the RAM, though. In Acer’s press release, it says the AiTV has 3GB of RAM, but the pre-order page only mentions 2GB. Hopefully, there’s more rather than less, because 2GB might not be enough for the most demanding applications.

Better than the Mi box because of ethernet port but still Chinese ewaste.

depends on the SOC it uses - the CPU and GPU is still far more important than ethernet given that most budget boxes only 10/100 ports instead of Gigabit ports so the ethernet port is still probably slower than the wi-fi anyway which renders it closer to useless than being a feature

it does have a USB C port though that the Mi Box also doesn't have, if you need one of those for anything so i suppose that's another plus but with 2GB ram its still in the same ballpark as the MiBox with one or two features extra which is normal for anything launched 6 months after the products leading the pack

It has gigabit ethernet.

What do you guys need all the ports for?
I have an Apple tv and 2 Android tv boxes and none of them have anything plugged into them except for a HDMI cable.

Rebranded stuff from AliExpress. Just like those Mecer inverter trolleys. When it breaks, they can't fix it LOL

i have a mi box S gen 3 and that thing only has one USB port so i use it for an active USB hub (wall powered) to add the USB to ethernet adapter and also my hard drives - i have loads of drives with stuff collected from back in the day (mostly my DJ music collection of 80s and 90s music) so i need USB ports to play that locally stored stuff

SoC seems ok :

Amlogic S905X5M is an update to the Amlogic S905X4 quad-core Cortex-A55 SoC with a higher 2.5 GHz CPU clock and a new generation Arm G310 CPU that delivers up to close to three times the performance of the Mali-G31 MP2 GPU for more advanced and smoother HDR user interfaces.

Android U refers to Android 14, and all benchmarks (Antutu 10.2.6, GFXBench 5.0.5, 3DMark 2.1) include 3D graphics tests showcasing the much higher performance of the Arm Mali-G310 V2 GPU that ranges from 132.45% to 180.08% increase in performance, or between 1.36 to 2.8 times faster. CPU performance has also increased by 16 to 36%, and memory bandwidth is much higher as well despite no big changes listed in the specifications provided by the company

Just that 2 gig RAM issue, though apparently it was fine for years on another device to have lower RAM.

It's probably fine for 95% of people
No man, don't you know you need all that RAM to multitask and scroll through the apps instead of watching stuff?
I mean when you ask a certain group why their devices have less RAM then another the answer is
****** has a much bigger focus on efficiency
But hey apparently it doesn't swing.

LOL We all know Apple is stingy on RAM, whether their devices is more efficient on less RAM is debatable.
But just think about it. If Stingy Apple decided that 2gb RAM is too little in 2017 already, how shyte must these things be that still have 2gb RAM in 2025

Nice boxes, but I don't use these boxes anymore. The old Skyworth ones turned into a sour experience. I still use them as Steam Links, though, but it is to play adventure games. I use a tablet more than I use the media boxes.

This Acer one is nice. There is a RAM limitation, but in my use case I won't need more than 2GB, though 3-4GB would have been nice. Hmmm, maybe I can rework the board

Just stick it into my cabinet, and that is it. The only problem with that is that I could emulate the experience.
