Acer Google TV Streaming Box

Weird mine dead boots and bootloops. Haven’t gotten any update in 3 years so that’s probably why.

Well, using it as a doorstop, is not condusive, to recieving, any updates. Probably in that state, due to your lack of forsight, and competence, in whatever you attempted to do to/with it. And no, we do not expect, any confessions.

Getting the thread back on track, the op should just get an Apple TV and call it a day?

This is a first - coming to South Africa before the rest of the world. Who is going to register their interest?

Acer Google TV Streaming Box
Why would pay pay for something just have ads on their home page, and that is if you even can call it a home page. It is a ****ing christmass-tree.

Thank god for apple tv - once you've gone minimalist non add home page...

I told you I could probably sort you out if you didn’t do anything and actually asked for your serial number?

PS These things don’t get updates if they don’t work.

This new Google TV box has a ton of ports, and comes from… Acer?

More and more Google TV devices are lacking a plethora of port options, but a new option is now launching with a ton of options available, and it comes from Acer of all brands.

Acer is best known for putting out laptops, monitors, desktop computers, Chromebooks, and the occasional Android tablet too. But a Google TV box is certainly an unexpected addition to the company’s lineup, but the company is now preparing to launch exactly that.

On a pre-order page in South Africa – the device doesn’t seem to be hitting the rest of the global market at this time – Acer details its “4K UHD Google TV Box.” The streaming box has Google’s typical reference design remote paired with a non-descript white box that has Acer’s logo in the corner.

But that box does have a lot of ports.

On the side there’s a USB-A port and a USB-C port, and then the backside has another USB-C port (this one for power) alongside ports for HDMI, Ethernet, optical audio, and a microSD card slot.

Slots like an springs/brakpan whore; crabs of adds.

The Acer 4K UHD Google TV Box recently debuted as a pretty capable Android television box with a versatile set of ports.

However, with the revised specs from the company, it seems that the smart TV is a bit less impressive than initially thought.

The company says that the device doesn't feature 3 GB of RAM.

Instead, the SoC is paired with 2 GB of memory, which is a bummer as the former would have led to a much smoother operation.

Speaking of the SoC, Acer says that the initial press release mistakenly mentioned that the 4K Google TV Box is powered by the Amlogic S905X5.

The company says that the correct chipset inside the smart television box is the Amlogic S905X5M, a slightly less powerful option than the former.

In addition to being a little less capable, the Amlogic S905X5M inside the Acer 4K Google TV Box is said not to offer a 4 TOPs NPU.

At R1499 I don't see what makes this box impressive? What am I missing?

+1
Specs are nothing special, price is nothing special so stick to brands that are known to work.

Ethernet. WiFi is useless and cable is stable.

Any update/outcum?

So after some testing it's an android tv box. Its fast and responsive, handles UHD content well. Looks pretty much the same as my QVWI android stick due to Android TV Home. Has some extra ports like 1G ethernet and Optical audio which is nice features.

On 720p streams it does look like it cleans and sharpens the image more giving a better picture than my QVWI stick but I'm not 100% sure so I will keep an eye on that especially with the big sporting weekend coming up.

So far has been good. Time will tell. At R799 it's a very good deal. At R1500 I'm not so sure if it's that much better than say a Xiaomi box.
