What is your opinion of them?

Who has or has had experience with an Acer notebook?

Anything will be appreciated (I've only ever had HP notebooks)

I have repaired one or two, but honestly, you are already using the best in the form of HP. If you can get an Acer for cheap, then take it, but it does not hold up to HP imo.

In what way?

I've had no major issues with my Ferrari 3000LMi - AMD based, so the CPU runs a bit hot, but otherwise pretty stable.

The only hassle I had was with the DC power jack on the laptop itself - got very loose and eventually had to be replaced - did it myself - bought the new part from the UK for GBP1.99, unsoldered the old bust one from the motherboard and replaced it with the new one - working great again!

Acer are solid systems, but I would also go for an HP or Dell in future, depending on what I wanted to use it for.

Not a fan - every one I have worked on had some or other issue. Most common being the screen hinge breaking.

Gee... That's already 1 for and 2 against. Didn't expect that.

Absolute max: R9500-00 (give or take a bit :D)

lol so that means give:P ... What are you looking for ? Theres some nice dells out there.

I agree with the Dell notebooks also, a bit overpriced, but very good quality with good after sale's support.

If I were in the market for a new Windows laptop it'd be an Acer.

My experience with laptops in SA...

2 x Dells - both needed after sales service while under warranty - had tough time getting any help from Dell. Dell eventually replaced the motherboard of one but that was only after they "misplaced" the laptop. All in all with that specific laptop it took 4 months from the day I sent it to them until it arrived back at my office.

1 x HP - Found the build quality really poor and wi-fi reception really bad compared to my Acers.

3 x Acers - Win XP on 2 of them, Vista on 1 - no hardware issues on any, software issues on 1 (Vista)

Sn3rd that is what i am using, and its a pretty solid laptop. I have 1 complaint and 1 only, it love finger prints and dust... which are both easily cleanable! Its damn expensive tho...

I agree that it's a good-looking notebook with decent specs. I don't understand why it's so expensive though. Oh, and they have a bit of a reputation for dodgy hinges: http://www.notebookhingecrack.com/

Haven't had that hinge madness yet, tho it looks like a problem. I managed to score mines from Dubai, so i got nice and cheap :) My budget was even smaller than yours, yet i got the c2d 2.2 with 250 gig hdd and 8400 GS M a year ago...

+1 for Acer.
My mum's had the same one for over 4 years. Apart from the time I fried the 64mb graphics card playing NFS, she hasn't had a single issue with it. Only formatted it once cos I was being my usual self - not cos there were any problems.

Plus they have a super warranty :)
