Hi

Can anyone recommend a place that could have a look at my 3-yr old netbook's keyboard please? The 'J' key randomly triggers and stays stuck, which I assume means the mechanism's broken.

I've heard that the Notebook company in Pta are worth trying, but would like to hear if anyone has had speedy, decent service anywhere else?

Thanks NomNom!

I've contacted Acer directly, who indicated that Regenersis in Midrand are the approved service center. I'll try there, first, I guess

If a key goes you can't realy fix it so just replace it yourself. I order my laptop parts from www.laptopaccessories.co.za.

They've never let me down. Fast delivery and realy good pricing even on LCD Panels. Just a word of caution when ordering a keyboard from them. Take the keyboard out and take a picture of the connector and email it to them and also the original part number.

Manufacturers doesn't always stick to one standard as i experienced with a Dell keyboard i ordered only to find the connector was different.

Edit: Forgot to mention it's fairly easy to take the keyboard out. You just gently lift the keyboard out, it's held down by a couple of tabs. Plenty of vids on youtube that shows exactly how to do it.

You can also take your netbook to them and test the keyboard at their shop. they are not a repair center, so you have open your laptop yourself (take a screwdriver!).
I did that with a laptop screen. I tested around 5 of them at their shop till we found the right one.

Hmmm... that's the 3rd recommendation for Laptop Accessories today :)

I called them and ordered a k/b, but now I've checked on their website and they list a model for a different version, the D255, which is not the same layout. I'll stop there on the way home to try and verify. Meanwhile, I've emailed Regenersis and the Notebook company in the hopes of finding the correct unit.

btw, laptopaccessories sell only generic parts. usually half the price than the original.
