Acer slates Microsoft’s hardware push

Microsoft hardware partner decries Microsoft entering their market with own hardware... predicts (hopes?) it will fail. News at 11.

He said Windows 8, which does not yet have a launch date, was “extremely important” for Acer, and it would have four or five devices tied in with its launch

Well there's Acer's problem: too many eggs in Microsoft's rotten basket.

There will always be nay sayers.

There were nay sayers a week before the Wright brothers flew their first plane.

They said it will never fly.

People who expect MS to suddenly start selling more than Apple are short sighted. Even MS dont expect to outsell Apple. MS are selling a product just to make some money, not to dominate the entire market.

MS's product could be the best thing since sliced bread, but it is meaningless as long as Apple dominates the media and Hollywood.

So the success of the Xbox and kinect does not count.
Acer just have sour grapes cos they gonna loose out when MS ships their own hardware.
And what's this crap of "focused on the user experience". Is that not Apple's excuse for everything their products can't do, like properly interface with other devices that uses industry standards.

This will give MS the chance to better integrate their software with the hardware. No need to cater for hundreds of drivers and other HW constraints.

A bit bad for competition though

All these manufacurers have had years to do cool things with Android tablets, and they've all just done the bare minimum to get a product out there. ASUS is the only company that seems to have made any kind of effort. I assume they were all just planning on shoving a compatible SoC into existing tablets and chucking a Windows logo on the front.

And now they're sad because MS did something better than them. Boo hoo. I'm sure they wouldn't have moaned if the surface looked kak. MS was forced to do something because there was so little innovation in this space. Hopefully the Surface is a great success and will show the other makers to put a little more effort and thought into their product as it pays off. The entire industry (including Apple) is in a slumber.

They're understandably upset that Microsoft decided to throw their hardware partners under the bus, but it is the best move for Microsoft.

A lot of them will be even more annoyed in a few months when Google does that same.
