just a quick rant.
I bought a acer 5620 laptop end november last year and the thing packed in after 15 days of use. I contacted acer on the 12th of December to log a call. the pc was not picked up as the warrantee states it will be. i eventualy took it to the courier services depo. the laptop was delivered to acer. I only got the machine back on the 8th of january 2009 thats about 16 WORKING days to process the laptop, replace a motherboard and get it back to me.
as far as service goes i am now totaly disgusted with acer.

Unfortunately anyone in the IT industry could have told you that.. unless u get a NBD warranty on a laptop, expect it to take forever to get fixed.

I know too many people who have had problems with Acer to ever consider one. And all that bloatware they install! Yegh.

when I recieved the unit in the beginning the pc came with XP instead of the vista buisness as advertised. they did send me an installation dvd but this is totaly incompetant. should have stuck with HP

acer makes little cheap plastic toys that simply emulate what a real laptop like for instance a dell can do. they are like those throw away styrafoam cups

Yeh - this laptop was my last - I was interested in the Acer One until I realized I already had an Acer - and its falling to pieces.

and its dead again !!!!!!!!

acer says that they will replace it only after the 4th failure of the same kind !!!!!!!

and again, now thats three failures, this time the onboard bluetooth died.
stay away from acer, my opinion.......

I have the exact same story.

First the battery lasted six months, then only held a 2min charge, bought a new battery for R1,300.

Then the charger went, bought another charger for R700.

Then the laptop started overheating, and turning off at random - I actually sat with a USB fan cooling the thing.

The keys kept falling off at random.

The little mouse nipple thing was to high, and eventually damaged the screen...

No thanks - fortunately the company bought me a new laptop - but my Acer laptop was a cheap piece of R17,000 hardware that lasted under 2 years.

I have an Acer One netbook and also had to go within a few weeks as one of the buttons didn't ... and nor did the SD card reader. They replaced the MB and did something else.

Customer care seems pretty awesome though - I think it was 2 weeks in total - and they SMS'd me when it was ready, when it was going to be dispatched etc

But I prefer the unit not breaking in the first place ;)

Agree, the customer service is great because they have had enough exercise and practice. high turn around on the faults. Have a look on hellopeter.com and check out acer Africa, very sad indeed, wish I had done this BEFORE buying the laptop.
