I was (and still am) having the same problems Clueless was having but with a 6230i. I tried an app called MobiMail from getjar.com and it seemed to work but every time I open the app it shows the same emails every time even though I have new mail. So Ive given up with that app...looking for alternatives now.

you can try wap.defza.com from your phone. IIRC David (or someone) has "fixed" it using a beta portal of sorts and it works if m.gmail.com doesnt... at least for me (too embarrassed to mention my phone model..)

hic... ok (damn bottle ) only a pleasure.. most mid to top of the range phones will work on just about any email. Most of it is settings, port settings , but the common problems are just outgoing mail servers and usernames and passwords..

Depending on the OS that the mail server sits on will also determine your username, old win 2k server with sp4 your username may include "username@isp.co.za" for example, but win xp server will just require just your username... so some of it depends on the ISp itself..

glad to be of assistance
hic...

why would you want to access your email that way when u can simply use a browser like Opera Mini and access your Gmail account online.

Opera mini works fine but it says the connection is not secure. I still have no clue why it wont work on a 6230i..when I go to email first it says the settings are incomplete then when i try and retrieve mail it gives some network error

I agree with nic777 - since I've got this working, every hour (or 30 mins or whatever setting), my phone polls the POP server and tells me if I have any new mails in my inbox. It then offers the option to retreive a message or not (which I can view with attachments .pdf . doc etc.). No using the browser, logging in etc. - very useful, and no hassle at all.

I'm busy trying to help a buddy at work setup his 6230i, ran out of time today, will carry on tomorrow and let you know how it goes, and pass on any advice.

new gmail app

i might be picking up loose straws but just wanted a sanity check. you are all aware that by going to gmail.com/app on your browser, you get an applet downloaded and installed that is handset specific. I'm on Virgin Mobile and have set it up on various handset models. Nokia N93, 9300i, and 8800 for myself. also other models for other Virgins.
I experienced a problem with my wife's Samsung D600. trying to access mail shuts the phone off and on. can anyone suggest a solution.

btw, the Gmail solution on the phone is awesome to say the least.

The app is great - really quick, and it also converts attached PDF and Word documents. Made my life so much easier!

that gmail app seems to pick and choose which phones it likes to work on... cause ive noticed on qoute a few forums that it works totally at random with different phones... very unusual.

a great app that i use now to check my emails from my phone is called MovaMail... i can check both my gmail and livemail accounts with it and open attachements. really nifty app!
