I'm a broke ass 20yo student with acne. Most of it has cleared up (e.g. face), but some areas still persist. A quick google shows loofas and benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid ointments are the way to go, so I'm just wondering what MyBB forumites recommend & where to get it in Cape Town. Preferrably for under R250. Currently checking out the big known pharmacy brands.

Benzac I think it's called could be a first step. Helped me for a time. Available at Dischem separately or in a acne "toolkit" for about R200 or so.

Get one of the acne facewashes. It helps with the irritation and swelling.

I had incredibly bad acne when I was between the ages of 13-18....

It sucked, big time, my folks sent me to see a dermatologist in the city..... helped nothing...

At hostel, I would steam my face twice a day, thinking that it helped.... but in was all in the mind...

Somebody at the hostel, gave me a lamp with a special red bulb in it.... I would try to burn my face clean with it.... did'nt help...

In the end, I sucked it up.... and waited out the 5 years....... grew out of it...

Downside or plus side..... I got to stand in front of my entire class and deliver an oral on acne, describing the different types of pimples and even went as far as squeezing the puss out in front of them onto an A4 to hand around the class for a "touch" ...

Also being called all the names under the son, build me up as a hardier character, if that can make any sense..... oh! and during rugger games , I would intentionally pop pimples till the blood ran down my scarred face........ for some reason the opposition steered clear of me...

Fast forward 30 years, my eldest daughter had it..... more traumatic for a lass and she went on a course of Rycotan(sp) , helped her quite a bit, but we took her off it when she went depro, but by that stage it had done most of it's work....

On her own admission, she would never do it again and would never advise anyone to take it....

/Moose rubs his weather hand over his pocket scarred face as he feels he has advised as best he can.....

Tried changing your diet? Yeah I know, lot of people say it's hogwash.
But it's the easiest, non-invasive change you can make. What have you got to lose?
Try it, not only for a week though ;)
Plenty of water too;)

The Remedy: Changing Your Diet
Does It Work? Most Likely
"The nutrients you're putting in your mouth eventually show up on your skin," says Jessica Wu, MD, a Los Angeles-based dermatologist, and author of Feed Your Face. That said, there simply aren't enough studies to pinpoint any one specific food as an acne-instigator for absolutely everyone, she says. To get one step closer to clearer skin, cut back on foods with a high glycemic index (think cookies, cake, and chips) and dairy, suggests Diane Madfes, MD, a dermatologist and clinical instructor at Mount Sinai Medical Center. While these two types of food may not necessarily cause acne, studies show an association between them and breakouts. Load up on foods full of inflammation-fighting omega-3s, like wild salmon or trout, Wu advises.

Sauce:

Tea trea oil:
Does It Work? Yes!
Tea tree oil, a fragrant essential oil derived from the tea tree, is an effective acne treatment, and one that's been backed up in the lab, too. But while it's good at killing acne-causing bacteria, it can also irritate the skin, says Polisky. The bottom line: This is one natural remedy you can't DIY, since the pure ingredient is too strong to swab on alone. Instead, find it in a soothing treatment like Dermalogica's Breakout Control , which pairs the ingredient with zinc sulfate to reduce redness and minimize irritation.

Lol so they can charge you extra. I've been using it for ages.

Try this

Zeolite powder

Costs about R130 for a tin which should last you a month or more. You can take it orally but can also use it as a facemask or just dab onto bad zits.

Sorry, been a bit busy. I drink ~1L water a day.

Bought some Benzac yesterday and some tins of tuna (for workout protein, but should still help). As I said, my face acne is no issue as it is 99% gone, it's just other areas of my body where it persists.

Avoid dairy if its acne on your back, acne on your face is more likely sugars but could be dairy as well.

Cetaphil and a sponge called a buf puf. They combine to do a mild exfoliation.

A facepack also works well.

Scrape together some cash and go see a dermatologist. Roacutan (sp) can help - it did for me at 14. My 13 daughter has just completed a 6 month course of a weaker version of Roacutan (I forget what it's called) and her acne is starting to clear. It does make your skin and eyes extremely dry and sensitive.

In addition to all the above, wash your pillow case a few times a week.

I have had friends who have used this and it is very effective, over the counter solutions will be a waste of money.
