I'm planning to replace my laptop hdd with a bigger one. To avoid reinstalling everything, I figured I'd use Acronis Migrate Easy to clone the drive onto the new one (in an external enclosure), and then just switch them over.

But... I'm having a problem installing Acronis. It wants me to register, and I fill in the required info (name, and email address) and click next, and it tells me "Failed to register the product. A possible reason is your firewall or proxy. Please stop them temporarily and try registration again."

It's not my internet connection, because everything else is connecting fine; and I don't use a proxy, which leaves the firewall. Now clearly I'm not going to shut down my firewall, and I have set it to allow Acronis access.

Anyone had this problem with Acronis before? Any solutions?

Hmm, I've never had Acronis try to register online. What version are you using?

If you have Seagate hard drives you could try using Disk Wizard, it's basically a free version of Acronis but only works with Seagate HDD's.

It's Acronis Migrate Easy - it's supposedly a free 15 day trial period, and I thought it was a bit odd that it was trying to register.

The new drive is a seagate, not sure offhand what the old drive is. I'll check it out, otherwise I'll look int0 TrueImage - Migrate Easy just seemed so perfect for what I'm trying to do!

Ah well, thanks for the help :)

I think as long as you have at least 1 Seagate or Maxtor hard drive Disk Wizard should work fine. :)
