Hey!

If I buy this..

Does that come with a serial key that I can use to activate the game in my steam list?

I bought the Half Life Adrenaline pack a while ago.. 1999 I believe.. and that code worked in my Steam to activate all the old games in Half Life.

So point of the thread is am I right to assume buying the game will unlock F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate in steam?

Same goes for..

Im not to sure if that will work. It depends to what manner steam supports that game. valve games (half-life etc) works 100% on steam. The same with Unreal tournament 3 which now has full steam support - meaning you can update your games through steam. But with games like fear - i think all you can do is add it as a non steam game to your steam list. Meening you add the exe to steam and open the game through steam, but steam does not support it in server lists or with updates.

Why would you want to do that anyways MrG?

In my Steam list, I only have Steam games - nothing else - adding non-Steam games to me will bring problems down the line.

What oom kosie said.

I have 2 non-steam games activated though, Bioshock which I bought through Steam and UT which I bought as retail. Never had any steam problems.

Then I stand corrected.

I still wouldn't activate a non-Steam game on it, especially for people who use ADSL because then it might want to do updates and bam, if you don't stop it, there goes your cap.

I'm on NeoConnect Prime Unlimited, so I couldn't care less. :)

I really like the way steam functions with regards to content distribution. I prefer rather buying through steam than buying in the shops to be honest.

I bought Half Life Episode 1 and 2 through Steam. If it wasnt for Telkom in SA I think many people may enjoy having content delivered through Steam the way it is. Luckily the local IS Steam Content Server also helps :)

If it wasn't for telkom I would prefer steam as well. The steam version of mass effect doesn't have the ea/securom crap that the retail version has.

I used steam when I was giving the choice what copy protection I would prefer with football manager 2009 and it works fine. No issues at all. The only issue with steam is rather a telkom/sa bandwith one not the program itself.

Are all steam content mirrored on IS servers or is it only the popular games? Because I wouldn't mind buying games through Steam if I could use my local cap to download them.

I have almost all those (never got into DoD), but those are all the 'popular' games. I'd like to know if other games such as bioshock or GTR Evolution are mirrored by the IS server.
