Activated Charcoal for bloatedness (Does it work?)

Haven't heard of it used for that but my instinct tells me no it won't work. Charcoal will work against some toxins & poisons though.

For bloat I'd suggest cutting out diary for 2-3 weeks and see if that helps. Lots of people are mildly lactose intolerant without realizing it. In fact the percentage is so high that some say lactose intolerance is normal & being lactose tolerant is the exception. In animals they start of being tolerant (breast feed) & then lose it later.

when i feel bloated i eat lotsa carrots and have great effects on my tummy

bloated? have some strong coffee to kick things into gear hehehe. People i stayed with last year use to tell me about charcoal a LOT every time my stomach had issues(while i too my meds i self prescribed with my list of ailments and medicines dad gave me hehe) though, not bloatedness.

Info?Really?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcinogen#Carcinogens_in_prepared_food
Cooking food at high temperatures, for example grilling or barbecuing meats, can lead to the formation of minute quantities of many potent carcinogens that are comparable to those found in cigarette smoke (i.e., benzo[a]pyrene).[5] Charring of food resembles coking and tobacco pyrolysis, and produces similar carcinogens. There are several carcinogenic pyrolysis products, such as polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, which are converted by human enzymes into epoxides, which attach permanently to DNA. Pre-cooking meats in a microwave oven for 2–3 minutes before grilling shortens the time on the hot pan, and removes heterocyclic amine (HCA) precursors, which can help minimize the formation of these carcinogens.[6]

Ockie, you started the thread that I didn't have time to do, thanks boet.

I had cauliflour on monday, I got sharp chestpains and had to let out few serious burps for the pains to go. I drink few sips of water to burp, a glass or 2 works straight away, the the farts starts. Looking for solutions. Someone said white bread, correct. Also lots of things with flour like bread, cakes, biscuits, roti, etc are not good. Rice doesn't give any wind/gas.
Was looking for answers of what fruits or veggies will help when like on monday night, it was hard to sleep while burping and farting... In other words, emergency gas situations. :)

The reason for the bloatedness, is that your body isn't able to digest the food which you are eating. This may be due to a number of reasons. Besides a food intolerance to something particular, it can often be caused by not enough good bacteria (flora) in your colon. This is also made worse by the ingestion of anti-biotics, which kill off everything.

I can recommend going to Dischem or Clicks & purchasing Probi-Flora (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_probiflora_used_for). Start with the 9 strain & move onto the 4 strain.

Also, there is a health shop in Pretoria, close to Menlyn, called Healthways. The owner makes his own digestive enzymes @ the CSIR. There is one in particular which really helps if you have eaten too much bread or have a gluten intolerance.

You may also have I.B.S. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), which can be treated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irritable_bowel_syndrome).

Occie, no really, a vegetarian diet is healthier. Plus you don't feel so tired after eating.

What we do is we still do eat meat - but very little.

But we do drink lots of water.

But it is up to every individual to decide for him/herself. We have decided to eat healthier. Works out cheaper as well since we don't need to buy tons of meat every month.

I'm obliged to say that the health message in Daniel 1 is worth heeding.

Good morning Ockie. I've been using the activated charcoal capsules for almost 3 months now and I am feeling much less bloated. I used to look and feel like I am a few months pregnant by midday and it was very uncomfortable. I've felt bloated even if i don't eat anything. I asked my doctor about it and mentioned to her that i've measured my waist in the evening and the next morning and the difference was about 5cms - which is impossible. I thought she might tell me it's not worth it, but she said i should give it a try. It takes a day or three to start working but it has ever since. I don't feel bloated and uncomfortable any more. Like you, i love my dairy products and won't stop even if it means higher cholestrol, but even my cholestrol levels were lower
