Hi guys,

It takes ages for a pc to connect to my domain.

I have just done a clean xp install of a desktop installed drivers and connected to my work domain (server 2003). But once you put in your password it takes ages to pass the "loading" screen that takes you to your desktop. If I remove the network cable however it loads to my desktop normally.

- I have dhcp set up, but have tried changing it to a static address without success.
- Once you have finally logged onto your desktop you can ping the server, so I dont think it is an IP issue.
- This has happened on about 3 machines (of about 70) including a notebook.

I'm stumped so I need some help bouncing ideas of what could be the cause of this.

Check your DNS settings (client and server), make sure your DNS is fully functional and client is pointing to the right DNS server.

Turn on verbose userenv logging on the problem xp clients see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221833
Check the userenv logs and see if there are any problems. (this should give you a good indication where the possible issue could lie, especially if you are using group policies)
Are you using anything like roaming user profiles (if so check the server hosting the profiles, size of the profile etc)

Thanks guys, DNS was blank for some reason. (strangely, the other pc I made just after it had no DNS in it either but seemed to log in without issue.)

Blonde mistake on my part, usually is :D
