Where can one go for an acupuncture? And how much does this usually cost? I'm trying to help a friend out... His shoulder is screwed from a gym injury, and it's been over 2 months now, and it doesn't seem to get better.

His been to the doctor, got some meds, but that doesn't seem to help. Someone at the gym recommended acupuncture....

I went to a physio in Brooklyn a while back. She also used acupuncture to fix my back. Sorry, can't remember the woman's name though :-( Maybe try the Yellow Pages?

Edit: It was R200 a session, but like I said, a while ago...

acupuncture = hocus pocus (IMO of course)

Shoulder injuries take a looong time to repair. It is far better for him to go to a good physio that can help with the rehabilitation. Meds alone won't cut it usually.

I'm afraid that he doesn't have the money to afford a physio. He is on Discovery, but I'm pretty sure they won't cover that.

The University of Pretoria gym has a good physio dept.

Rather fork out more $$$ for that than Accup.

The fact that it is *recognized/non-hocus pocus* treatment for an real injury should make it claimable imo. Not too sure though.

The physio's I've been to for my bad neck has used acupuncture twice on me now. Works like a charm but hurts like hell if your muscles are really knackered. At Texo: It IS a professional medical treatment. If it wasn't, physio's wouldn't get trained in performing it.

Physios do not use acupuncture as such. They use acupuncture needles to neutralise electrical imbalances in the muscle sheath. By doing this it allows the spasm to relax. It is NOT acupuncture, more like just normal puncture.
