I can't wait to get my hands on one of these... I have played it a few times already but now I just need to scrape up R3k to pick one up...
And that's over and above the R3k I need for 360 games and the 6k I need for a PS3.

I'm going to get flamed for this or accused of trolling, but I really think that the Wii's a great console... for noobs.
Not the most politically-correct gaming statement, but seriously, I think the novelty wears off really fast for anyone who wants to play "proper" games. To me, Wii Sports and Wii Play got old really quickly, leaving basically just Twilight Princess and Metroid as good, deep games on the console. When you factor in the cost of buying an extra Wii-mote and nunchuck, the thing's the same price as a 360 Pro, which has 78346732545646545 great titles, and far better graphics, media player abilities etc.
For people who wouldn't otherwise play games, I guess Wii's a fun thing to have, but for serious gamers... not so sure.

You are right, but like I said in a previous thread, it depends on what you want out of the console. As a family/friends/kids entertainment tool, it is brilliant, and thats what I personally wanted. I have a PS2, which I haven't switched on in 3 years ... the Wii gets played every night

I don't want to play on the Xbox cos I think its for people who like dark rooms drink Red Bull, worry too much about frame rates and graphics while suffering from a hidden fantasy to murder their work collegues.

Personally my attraction to the wii is that having to learn one more stupid key combo is going to graze my last nerve.
Many games have become so complex that they are barely playable unless you can devote like 12hrs a week to playing and building the skills. I don't have that kind of time in between my other interests and family etc. IMO they have crossed that line in the sand between fun at the flick of a switch and practicing/building a skill ...Its worth more to me to hone other, more tangible skills (programming/mountain biking/skateboarding/cooking/coinage) than to spend all my efforts learning an intangible essentially worthless skill so lots of games are really pointless to me.
Wii on the other hand is pick up and play, switch off and leave ...it just makes more sense in my life and its not as exclusive for all of the reasons mentioned above so more people can enjoy it and personally fun with more people is more fun.

Wii's controls don't obviate this in complex games. Sure, Wii Sports lets you wave the Wii-mote around and that's basically it, but on a game like Zelda, there's just as steep of a learning curve to master the controls as there is on a game like Halo. Last night a mate of mine (who's had a Wii for about 2 months already) came around and played some Metroid, and he struggled to get used to all the different things that were required of him, including button pushing/remote movement combos, which IMO are sometimes more confusing and complicated than button pushing alone.

I have to disagree, my fantasies of killing my work colleagues keep me going. There is no suffereing involved

The Wii is purely aimed at making video games more accessible to non-gamers and in my opinion does a really good job at that. One just has to look at the stories of entire families playing it for hours on end to see that.

I think Gavin's feeling about the Wii is the best. It's a gaming system that compliments another system.
I don't really look at it as a main gaming system. In my case it would compliment my PC. When my friends come over for a braai or get-together I can whip out the Wii (hehe....... sorry
) and start playing.Something I can't do on my PC with large amounts of people.
Ya, but R3500k for a secondary system? Way too much. Besides, in my experience the best party games are the ones with dedicated peripherals a la Guitar Hero and Singstar. I've mentioned this before - went to a braai where the guy had a Wii and PS3 and a 360. Everyone played GH2 on the 360 all day.

We used to play Tekken on the PS2, rotating and trying to see who can win the most fights consecutively (only the guys though) ... This weekend was a different story: Kids running around the lounge fighting, playing golf, shooting at the shooting range, adults outside on the patio, and when the kids got tired, it was our turn to put on the gloves and dust off the bowling shoes ...
Fair enough, but in my experience, in 2 months time (or less) your kids and your friends will be bored of Wii Sports/Play. There's not enough depth there to keep people amused for long.

Believe me, Golf and Shooting range will keep my 3 year old busy for quite some time, oh and not to mention fishing. And when he's bored with that he can slay dragons in Zelda

What would you pay for an X360 Core and Guitar Hero? And then you only have Guitar Hero. And then only single player.
I only need something to keep everyone entertained during a braai or such. That's it. For everything else...... there's my PC.
This is how it is for me. These are my needs. This won't change. Therefore I will get myself a Wii. Thank you and have a pleasent day.
