Addition Hard Drive - power supply?

Hi, I'm planning on getting an additional 1.5TB storage space. At the moment I have:

E5200 @ 3.3Ghz
HD4870 @ 800/1100
500GB hard drive
DVD drive
G31 motherboard
460W Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus

How much power would an additional hard drive pull? Would it be safe to add a 1.5TB drive?

yes it would, it would only add another 20 - 30 W when its running at peak speeds otherwise you'll be quite safe

This is what a 1.5Tb western digital green drive draws. So you're good to go. Even the faster black series only draws 11W max.

you could always get a Seagate 1.5TB LP drive, as they as fast, and use less power...

i have a similar setup with the same psu, but my gpu is a 9600gt and have 3 hdd and all works 100%

Probably it'll be fine, but its very difficult to tell. Power supply units lose "wattage" over time, and not in a predictable manner. First step, stress your system out to the max, and make sure its stable. If not, it might be the PSU. If all is well, then add in your drive, and stress test again. If it struggles, then you may need a new PSU. Best of luck!

you will be fine by adding the 1.5tb, you could add another one as well and you will still be ok
