Adequate PC hardware for programming

yup. Well just started it so not yet qualified to comment.

Reason for my comment is that it's unusual for a institution to teach code on a proprietary ide. Not a good practice at all , learning should be generic and about foundations.
 
Wah, that's quite a sexist remark. I've known quite a few very good female developers, not many true ( rare things, women in IT in general :D ) but your comment is a bit over the top.

Im not insulting anyone, just stating the facts that anyone in IT can agree with.

Take my uni class for example - 2006 - 2 females in a class out of around 200.

People who do programming in uni for the first time, most of them dont make it because they dont enjoy it.If you enjoyed it , you would have been doing that in highschool already as almost all of male programmers have.
