Adobe pulls the plug on Flash

Was just a matter of time, but it is still a pity to see an old legend go.

Well HTML 5 is just as good, if not better. The older devices running up to ICS can still make use of flash but if you have Jelly Bean with Chrome, you can make use of HTML 5.

I wonder how long it will take the advertisers to remove Flash support from their promos.

Yeah this is the problem how long before web developers stop developing or using flash websites?
So for now the newer androids will be crippled like ios devices for how long, months? years?

You can still use Flash, even with JB. I saw an article a few weeks ago. Basically you just download an apk and voila.

My biggest concern is the majority of constant Flash updates were due to security issues, if Adobe stop supporting updates it opens the door for hackers and viruses.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how people compare HTML5 to Flash. With Flash it's all contained within a single .swf. Does HTML5 have a similar packaging method?

Apple always the trendsetters :p
Apple killed flash. With such a large market denied to them, there was no point in continuing. HTML5 is no flash replacement. It can't do DRM. You might think that a good thing but it means content providers that need DRM protections will have to roll out a custom plugin. Convenience gone, options gone.

The only way forward now is for browsers to support encrypted Javascript and built in DRM which means the death of true opensource browsers. Firefox will have to follow the Chrome model of having an opensource version and a "proper" version.

Alternatively, maybe some bright spark will figure out a different path. Holding thumbs for that person.
